San Francisco 49ers 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows

San Francisco 49ers 8-8 Welcome to the NFC West Week and the San Francisco 49ers 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. The 49ers fell from grace this year. After three years of improvement under the tutelage of Jim Harbaugh, everything seemed to screech to a halt. As could be expected the team made a plethora of moves already this off-season, but let’s take a moment to look back before looking forward. Highs: Anquan Boldin Congrats to Boldin and his re-emergence. He was great. Look at the tape. He was the rock of this team. He ended the season with 83 catches for 1,062 yards and five touchdowns. Back to back 1,000+ yard seasons for the 7th time in his career. He’s 34 years old, so this was even more impressive. Colin Kaepernicks’ Last Two Games If you drafted Colin Kaepernick based on his upside in the preseason, you were sorely disappointed. But if you picked him up out of desperation at the end of the season because you needed a warm body to fill your QB position, you were delighted! In Week 16 they finally let him run with abandon and he racked up 151 yards and scored his only rushing touchdown of the season. In Week 17 he only rushed for 63 yards (still a nice number for a Quarterback) but he added two passing touchdowns to his fantasy performance. Lows: Colin Kaepernick (most of the season) Of the Quarterbacks that started 16 games, only Andy Dalton and Derek Carr had less fantasy points than Colin Kaepernick. He...

Arizona Cardinals 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows

Arizona Cardinals 11-5   Welcome to the NFC West Week and the Arizona Cardinals 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team.   The Cardinals have made some moves this offseason and restructured some contracts leaving a lot more cap space. Rumors are that the Cardinals are very interested in Peterson if the Vikings are willing to do a trade. If the Peterson trade does not happen we are looking at a very similar team to draft from in our 2015 fantasy drafts.   Highs:   My biggest high for the Cardinals in 2014 was Bruce Arians. You may be saying that doesn’t affect my fantasy team, but Coaches can have a huge impact on who you start. Arians won Coach of the Year and to me there was no real competition. He was hired on by the Cardinals before the 2013 season and led the team to a 10-6 record. That was double the wins the previous season. The Cardinals improved from 32nd overall on offense to 12th and 12th on defense to 6th. He is making this team better, which is making them better for fantasy.   After Carson Palmer tore his ACL in week 9 there was never that fantasy star coming out of Arizona. Palmer was right about 18 fantasy points in each game he played so in a two Quarterback league or if you had Kaepernick or RG3 he was a great play. He signed a huge contract right before getting injured, which was restructured so the Cardinals could save $7 million in cap space....

Seattle Seahawks 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows

Seattle Seahawks 12-4 Welcome to the NFC West Week and the Seattle Seahawks 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. Seattle had three fantasy relevant players: Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and “Defense.” Everyone else was frustrating and unpredictable. That’s pretty much the whole story, but we’ll go into some of the details knowing that much will change with the recent arrival of Tight End superstar, Jimmy Graham. Highs: Russell Wilson Wilson was the third highest scoring fantasy Quarterback on the season behind Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck. Those skeptical about his future will say, “But he didn’t throw the ball!” True, but he acquired 849 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. If he were a Running Back, he would tie with C.J. Anderson with the 16th highest yards on the season and would tie with a handful of guys (including my favorite player, Matt Forte) for 17th in rushing touchdowns. Don’t look for him to repeat that if they sign him to a cushy contract. Up until now Wilson has had the uncanny ability to not get hit, but when your team hinges on your highly paid, very talented Quarterback, things change. Marshawn Lynch  Lynch finished the season with the fourth most rushing yards (1,306) among all Running Backs in the league. And at 13, he tied with DeMarco Murray for the most rushing touchdowns. He also caught 37 passes for 367 yards and four touchdowns. As long as he plays you want him on your fantasy team. And for a fun bonus, we wanted to make sure that you saw this amazing...

New Orleans Saints 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows

New Orleans Saints 7-9 Welcome to the NFC South Week and the New Orleans Saints 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. 2014 was disappointing for the Saints considering they didn’t even reach 8-8 and man, oh man they cleaned house at the top of free agency! But let’s look back on the fantasy year that was. Highs: Drew Brees Brees’ best game was in Week 13 at Pittsburgh. He only threw for only 257 yards, but also for five touchdowns. Nice. He did peter out towards the end of the season (only six touchdowns to six interceptions his final four games), but he finished with 4,952 passing yards – tied for highest in the league… with Ben Roethlisberger. Did we not say this was a weird year? Mark Ingram  Finally Mark Ingram got the chance to break out from the “Running Back by Committee” situation and show what he is all about. In 13 games he rushed for 964 yards and nine touchdowns. And how did the team reward him? They resigned him to a four-year, $16 million deal… and brought in C.J. Spiller. WHY!?!? The warm and fuzzy thoughts of a dependable RB1 in New Orleans were fleeting ones. Lows: Jimmy Graham Facts are facts: he ended the season as the third highest scoring fantasy Tight End. But frankly, Tight Ends are terrible and Graham was NOT the first round draft pick everyone wanted him to be. Two times he left the game with ZERO points. In one of those games he had ZERO targets. He did score 10...

Chicago Bears 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows

Chicago Bears 5-11 Welcome to the NFC North Week and the Chicago Bears 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. If you listen to our show, you know that my admiration for Matt Forte know no bounds. You also know that I am a big Marc Trestman believer and a Jay Cutler skeptic. Therefore, this was a very, very rough season covering the Bears. The highs and lows were treacherous and frankly, it felt nice finally stepping off this roller coaster. Highs: Matt Forte Was there ever any doubt? With 102 receptions, Forte broke Larry Centers’ 1995 record (101) for total season catches by a Running Back. On the ground, Forte finished with 1,038 yards on 266 carries (3.90 YPC). He scored ten all-purpose touchdowns. Although his rushing numbers petered off a bit this year, nothing on Forte’s tape suggests he’s in decline. He is 29 years old so look for fantasy pundits to warn you about taking him high in next years draft, but I do not support that line of thinking. Look at the tape. I repeat, look at the tape. He did more with less than almost any other Running Back in the league and their new head coach, John Fox, likes to run. However, there are some rumors about the Bears looking to trade Forte, which strikes me as insane. I won’t put anything past the Bears and it doesn’t matter. There is nothing that Matt Forte can’t do so all of the ladies at Her Fantasy Football believe that Matt Forte will make any...
