This week, we made some gut calls on Ray Rice, Torrey Smith, Joe Flacco, Dallas Clark and Justin Tucker.

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Ray Rice
#12 Ranked RB
With Clay Matthews out, this is really going to open up the field for the Ravens. Rice had 74 yards rushing with 2 TDs and 28 yards receiving last week against Miami. Green Bay is ok against the rush thus far, but with injured WRs and basically no TE, Rice will see a lot of touches this week. Ravens win when they give the ball to Rice.

Baltimore Ravens ThumbnailTonight is the night that we all have been waiting for. Bleacher Report has broken down the match-up for you to check out. My question for you is who is going to win? My pick is the Broncos and their electric offense.

Both Defenses are a mystery this week. I wouldn’t play either defense. Julius Thomas, TE for the Broncos, was arrested for an outstanding traffic ticket. No reports yet if his play tonight will be effected. Those Broncos need to stay out of trouble.

WR Wes Welker is Probable tonight as well as TE Ed Dickson. WR Deonte Thompson is doubtful. Good Luck starting your Fantasy Football week off. Should be a great game.

Ravens vs. Broncos Preview, PredictionsThe wait is finally over. On Thursday night, the Baltimore Ravens travel to face the Denver Broncos in the first game of the 2013 NFL season. It’s a rematch of the most exciting game of last year’s playoffs, a double-overtime affair that helped propel the Ravens on to Super Bowl XLVII.

Philadelphia EaglesTwitter lit up today with terrible, hideous news.  Reportedly, WR Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles, tore is right ACL and will be out for the season.  Unfortunately, not only is this sad because you never want someone to get injured, especially in training camp, but this was the last year of his contract.  Terrible or Maclin physically, emotionally, and financially.  We wish him the best.

Baltimore RavensTE Dennis Pitta, Baltimore Ravens, dislocated his hip.  Many are predicting that he will at LEAST miss the season opener against the Broncos.  Whether or not he’ll be full strength after that is unknown.  Still, his diagnosis looks much better than Maclin.  And least he’ll see some time in 2013.

Get well soon!!!

Agreed, James Walker.  Agreed…

UPDATE: When the doctors went in for surgery on Dennis Pitta’s hip, they also found a fracture.  This means he will be out for the whole season because it was pretty much the worst case scenario for his injury.  And, like Maclin, this was his contract year as well, so this is a terrible blow.

Once again, the ladies at Her Fantasy Football hope for speedy recoveries for both of these men and all of the other players who get injured while playing the sport.

Big, fun day!  The 2013 schedule was announced on the NFL Network tonight.  And that means that I started getting REALLY EXCITED for football season.Manning calling plays, Broncos vs Steelers 2012

But I’ve been asked a few times about the Baltimore opener.

Traditionally, the Super Bowl Champs get to host the season opener, but this year the team will travel to face the Denver Broncos.  Why?

In a word, baseball. The Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens play right next to each other and share a parking lot along with a ton of city resources.  This is a logistical nightmare.  Prior to the Ravens winning the big game, the Orioles game was already set, and they refuse to move it.

So, the schedule makers decided to punish the Ravens by making them face the team that took them to double overtime on their way to the big dance.  Altitude or no, facing Peyton Manning is never fun.

Who would play you in the movie about your life?

I like the more obscure casts, so I would go with Lauren Cohen, the woman who plays Maggie Greene in THE WALKING DEAD.  She seems tall-ish, and her vibe is right.

You read the title and you think, “Oh, she’s going to go off about the odd choice of Joe “I can’t even show raw emotions after winning a Super Bowl” Flacco!”  Perhaps.  But here are my problems with this news story:

1. The title.  Naming a movie UNITAS WE STAND gives me an abundant amount of information regarding the caliber of this production.  I’m assuming this production team is going for a cross between Lifetime Movie of the Week, FIELD OF DREAMS, and those terrible “historical re-enactments” on the History Channel.  Now, would I watch something described as such?  You bet your bottom dollar.  But we’re not messing with some sort of crystalized and precious artistic endeavor.

2. Which leads me to, why the drama?  Supposedly this is a battle of the oldest brothers.  Joe Unitas will make the movie.  He’s the oldest son from Johnny’s second wife.  But it’s Johnny Unitas, Jr., Johnny Sr.’s first son from his first wife, who thinks the casting insults his late father.  And Johnny Jr. has the rights to the Johnny Unitas name.  So, basically, I’m not sure how this movie can even happen without Jr’s okay.  Family feuds are not cute.

3. Yeah, the thought of Joe Flacco attempting demonstrative feelings makes me laugh.  It’s okay if you’re more of an internal person… but not if you are acting.  Supposedly a small role, he’s only doing the scenes from the famous 1958 Super Bowl in Yankee Stadium between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants which ended in sudden-death overtime.  Some have called this game the greatest of all time.  And that may be true, but did they have a blackout?

4. Johnny Jr. wanted Peyton Manning.  He was a Colt and he’s the greatest.  That was pretty much what he said, and I’d have to agree.  Johnny called Joe Flacco a “goofball” in comments to USA Today.  J.C. Unitas, Jr’s son and grandson Sr, went on to say to USA Today, “My grandfather and his legacy deserves only the best, and this is not it.  Has Baltimore forgotten that Trent Dilfer also won a Super Bowl while playing for Baltimore?”  Always, always with the Dilfer slams.  Sadness.  Joe Flacco, I mean Joe Unitas (yeah, I went there) thinks Joe Flacco is a great man, a Baltimore legend, and will do a great job. He also wrote The Baltimore Sun an apology on behalf of his other family members to the Baltimore franchise and Mr. Flacco.  But there was no apology Mr. Dilfer.  More sadness.

Frankly, this seems much ado about nothing.  Joe Flacco to play Johnny Unitas seems obvious and yet odd.  It could go either way.

But if you’re doing a sports movie, or heck, if you’re doing a movie and the guy just needs to be fit, there is only one cast.  That cast is Channing Tatum.  And if you don’t have him, you’re doing it wrong.

That brings me to what we all ask ourselves whenever a bio movie comes out…

Who would play you in the movie about your life?
