Suggestion box, anyone?  Anyone?  Both Carolina and Minnesota have only tasted victory one time this season.  Someone has to win, right?  Good for them.  But let’s focus on you fantasy victory!

This week, we made some gut calls on Cam Newton, DeAngelo Williams, Graham Gano, Greg Olsen and the receiving corps.

A Penny’s Worth of Thoughts:

Cam Newton

#12 Ranked QB

We simply cannot in good faith continue to tell people that Cam Newton is a must start. His stats are all over the map. We think there is a possibility that he has a nice game, but this is a gut call. Last week Newton went back to that odd sideline behavior and lacked the vigor necessary to win a football game. And remember: in fantasy, we’re not as into winning the game so much as we are about yards and TDs. He couldn’t get that done either. He was sacked 7 times and never fell into a rhythm because of the sneakily good Arizona defense. Perhaps the coaching staff will go back to designed runs like in his Week 3, 30-fantasy-point outing. Too many unknowns to play without consideration. If you have a better option, don’t be afraid to play the other guy.

Fantasy Foreplay: Panthers vs. VikingsCarolina Panthers (1-3) at Minnesota Vikings (1-3) CAROLINA PANTHERS Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em No one is a must start after the disappointing game last week coming off the bye, but there are a lot of bubble players that you might want to consider if you’re in a bye week predicament.

Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals

This week, we made some gut calls on Cam Newton, Carolina Defense, Greg Olson, DeAngelo Williams, and Steve Smith.

Fantasy Foreplay: Panthers v CardinalsCarolina Panthers (1-2) at Arizona Cardinals (2-2) CAROLINA PANTHERS Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em Bench Warmers ARIZONA CARDINALS Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em We’re not sure if anyone else should be on your starting roster this week. The offense needs to gel and the Carolina defense is pretty strong when it comes to ball security.

Well, do you need a money manager to tell you that it’s expensive to attend a football game?  All you need to do is show up to a stadium and ask for a beer.  Outrageous.

But, funny enough, the beer prices have gone up the LEAST when you consider the price of bringing your family to the game.  According to Melanie Hicken at money.cnn.com:

While ticket prices have climbed more than 50% over the past decade, parking prices have more than doubled, according to the index. Beer prices, meanwhile, have climbed about 35% from 2003′s average of $5.21.money.cnn.com

It’s too bad.  One of the reasons I love my Broncos so much is because we had season tickets and would go as a family.  I’m going to have to win the lottery to make that happen for my kids, especially if we stay in New York (see the graphic below).

The good news, fantasy football is free!

Check out these prices and check out the article for more depressing facts and numbers.  Happy opening weekend!

Carolina PanthersCoach Ron Rivera announced that Carolina RB Jonathan Stewart would be on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list for the preseason after a meeting with team doctors on Thursday, July 25.

Last season Stewart missed 2 of the first 3 games due to a right ankle injury.  Then he missed the last 5 games of the season due to a left ankle injury.  During the off-season, Stewart’s doctor ultimately decided it would be best for the athlete to perform surgery on both ankles.

If that sounds terrible to you, get in line.

Supposedly the recovery is going well.  And I hope so.  I never wish injury on a player.  However, I cannot encourage people to draft Jonathan Stewart if they ultimately want a fantasy football championship.  He has 2 bad ankles AND he’s part of a dreaded “running back by committee” situation.  That means all of the touches are going to be divided between Stewart and his fellow Carolina RBs DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert.  Considering the injury, you should expect the coaching staff to take it easy on Stewart to ease him back in.  That means less fantasy points.

Get well soon, Stewart.

Panthers place Jonathan Stewart on PUP listPanthers running back Jonathan Stewart had a meeting with the team’s doctors on Thursday to check on the status of his surgically repaired ankles and the result of that exam is going to keep Stewart on the sideline for a while. Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that Panthers coach Ron Rivera announced that…
