This week, we made some gut calls on Tampa Bay Defense, Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams, and Mike Glennon.

Here’s some analysis re: Doug Martin:

Doug Martin

#7 Ranked RB

They MUST get this guy the ball. This is not a Ridley or Wilson situation. They like him and they do use him, but he’s been bottled up by defenses that are great against the run (NY Jets, Arizona, New England, and New Orleans… seriously). The rest of his schedule looks better. You may feel burned, but it’s ugly out there in RB waiver wire land. Stay safe with Martin.

Each week the ladies of Her Fantasy Football will provide written fantasy analysis and commentary on our brother site, Cover32.com.  Please go over there and check out all the exciting new things that group has to offer in regards to league news.  They provide in-depth analysis, team by team, giving the fans a closer look at the teams they love.

Well, do you need a money manager to tell you that it’s expensive to attend a football game?  All you need to do is show up to a stadium and ask for a beer.  Outrageous.

But, funny enough, the beer prices have gone up the LEAST when you consider the price of bringing your family to the game.  According to Melanie Hicken at money.cnn.com:

While ticket prices have climbed more than 50% over the past decade, parking prices have more than doubled, according to the index. Beer prices, meanwhile, have climbed about 35% from 2003′s average of $5.21.money.cnn.com

It’s too bad.  One of the reasons I love my Broncos so much is because we had season tickets and would go as a family.  I’m going to have to win the lottery to make that happen for my kids, especially if we stay in New York (see the graphic below).

The good news, fantasy football is free!

Check out these prices and check out the article for more depressing facts and numbers.  Happy opening weekend!

Holy moly! This situations went from ugly to “possible flesh-eating staph infection” – FAST!

On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed Kicker Lawrence Tynes on non-football injury reserve due to the fact that Tynes is suffering from a nasty MRSA infection and will be unable to play for some time.  The Bucs agreed to pay Tynes the entirety of this contract, as well.

As a regular gal, this sounded great.  It felt like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were admitting to being accountable for the terrible MRSA outbreak in their facilities.  But, I guess it was the exact opposite.

By not putting Tynes on the regular Injured Reserve, Tynes will be denied benefits including his salary as long as he stays on the team, an accrued season, full benefits and another season towards his pension.

In an exclusive interview with FOX Sports on Saturday, Tynes got a lot off his chest, and I have to agree with him.  He said, “If I drop a 45-pound plate on my foot while lifting weights in the weight room a the facility, it’s IR.  So I just don’t understand how my situation is any different.  I went to work, I kicked, I practiced, I cold-tubbed, I hot-tubbed, I showered for all those days there.  I come up with MRSA and it’s a non-football injury?  They’re basically trying to exonerate themselves of this and I’m not going to allow it to happen.”

So, the veteran Kicker filed a grievance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the backing of the NFL Players Association.  As far as I can tell, the Bucs knew about the outbreak in their facilities, they had all of the grounds fumigated, so I’m not sure how they can even attempt to not take responsibility for Tynes’ MRSA infection.  The Buccaneers Guard, Carl Nicks, also got the infection.  It seems pretty obvious to me.

Tynes fighting Bucs over MRSA messThere’s a fight coming between Lawrence Tynes and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it’s going to make his wife Amanda’s tweets seem tame. Lawrence Tynes was informed Saturday he’ll be placed on the non-football-injury list by the Bucs, which is their way of saying he has no proof the MRSA infection that began in his foot was contracted at their facility.

Tampa Bay BuccaneersWelcome back, former cover star of Madden NFL!  I almost sent out a search party.

Listen, this is good for everyone involved.  Peyton Hillis hasn’t been exceedingly relevant since his 2010 monster season, but he’s only 27 years old and could be a nice change of pace back behind Doug Martin.  It’s a one year contract at the league veteran minimum.

And the Bucs need another back because other than Martin, there’s…

That’s right, no one.

Best of luck to both parties.  I think you both win.

And speaking of winning… if you play fantasy football, you want Doug Martin as your number one back.  He’s amazing.  Sorry, I just can’t keep writing these Tampa Bay articles without throwing that in.  It’s still important, no matter how obvious.

Peyton Hillis, Buccaneers strike one-year contractPeyton Hillis and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have struck a deal. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports the Bucs have signed Hillis to a one-year contract. The deal came together quickly after the running back visited with the team on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay BuccaneersThe drama continues…

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that Eric Wright, former Cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, failed his physical, therefore voiding the trade.  When asked for details, Jim Harbaugh simply said, “The information is he didn’t pass his physical, he’s not on the team.”

When you hear that someone failed a physical, you assume they weren’t fast enough or maybe their blood pressure was too high.  And that may be the case.  However, a team can fail you on a physical for whatever reason they want.

Many are suggesting that he was failed due to his newest DUI charge that came in Los Angeles on July 12.  There are conflicting reports as to whether or not the 49ers knew of the arrest and pending charges prior to accepting the trade.  The 49ers were going to get Wright, a former second-round draft pick, for a conditional draft pick in 2014.

Sadly, 2012 was a busy year for Eric Wright.  He was charged with a felony DUI (which was later dropped), played through an Achilles tendon injury and he was suspended for four games by the NFL for violating their performance-enhancing drug policy.  Prior to 2012, Wright signed a five-year contract worth $37.5 million, but the language within that contract allowed the Bucs to void his remaining guaranteed money if he failed a drug test.  They did just that.

And to be frank, the trade was odd from the get go.  Coach Jim Harbaugh has been very vocal about his no-tolerance stance on bad player behavior, especially when it concerns performance-enhancing drugs.  Just in June, when asked about the seemingly large amount of Seattle Seahawks testing positive for banned substances, he said the following:

You don’t know what it is. Even when people say what it is, you don’t know that that’s what it is. I’ve heard this thrown out or that, but that’s usually the agent or the players themselves saying it’s, for example, Adderall. But the NFL doesn’t release what it actually is, so you have no idea.  You’re taking somebody at their word that I don’t know if you can take them at their word, understanding the circumstances.

Once the physical was failed and the trade voided, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Eric Wright.  He’s now an unrestricted free agent.

Wright’s trade from Bucs to 49ers voidedTAMPA, Fla. — The trade of Eric Wright from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the San Francisco 49ers was voided Monday, after the cornerback failed a physical, San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh said. His rights reverted to the Buccaneers, who are in the process of releasing him, a league source said.

One of two things are going to happen this contract year: 1. He’ll crumble or 2. He’ll have a career year.  I’m hoping it’s the latter.  I have a sweet spot for the guy.  Vincent Jackson and Doug Martin are mega studs.  Revis joined the Defense, which could take some of the “must score” pressure off the lad.  Mike Williams could prove a substantial WR2.  Freeman has to tools, he just needs to follow through.

Fantasy Analysis: Still too unstable to draft, but if you have an injured QB earlier, make sure to check in with Freeman’s stats.  We’ll know most of what we’ll need to know by week 3.

Josh Freeman focusing on the present with the BucsJosh Freeman focusing on the present with the Bucs Josh Freeman’s Bucs career is at a crossroads in 2013, but he’s prepared to focus on the here and now as training camp nears. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is facing a crucial season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach, Greg Schiano, decided to make a statement on the team website to clarify that even though they drafted Mike Glennon, the 73rd pick of the draft, the QB from North Carolina State will not be viewed as immediate competition for the team’s starting quarterback, Josh Freeman.

Greg Shiano does admit that there might be more heat in 2014, but he’s envisioning the new recruit as a bench warmer learning in every way he can.  Shiano said, “I think that’s hard with any rookie quarterback.”  He goes on to say, “It’s going to be a matter of how fast he grasps our system and all those things.  And the fact of the matter is, we have a starting quarterback.”

That’s what they all say, coach.
