This is a tough one. Second-round pick Maxx Williams will eventually be the starter, but historically tight ends take time to adjust to the league, the routes an their blocking assignments. Also, Gillmore supposedly worked on his quickness and receiving skills over the offseason. Keep your eye on this situation. Offensive Coordinator Marc Trestman used Martellus Bennett of the Chicago Bears quite a bit. Link to...

Dallas Cowboys 12-4 Welcome to the NFC East Week and the Dallas Cowboys 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. Highs: Dez Bryant It amazes me that Dez continues to perform and stay healthy every year. In his 2014 season he had 88 receptions, 1320 yards, and 16 touchdowns. That is three more touchdowns then any other receiver last year. Dez is now a franchise player after being tagged this offseason. No long-term deal yet for Dez but he will get paid with stats like his. DeMarco Murray I think we all can agree that DeMarco Murray was the standout for the Cowboys. He averaged 17 fantasy points a game. He had five games with 20 or more points and had eight games in a row with over 100 yards rushing. He had another four games over 100 yards rushing as well, for a grand total of 1845 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns and another 416 yards receiving. He was the clear number one running back of 2014 behind a very talented offensive line. Murray has found a new home for the 2015 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. Both Murray and Chip Kelly think this will be a very good match. After being run to the ground and switching teams only time will tell if Murray can be as successful this year as he was last year. Lows: Terrance Williams My first low was Terrance Williams. I love Dez but Dez could have been even better if the Cowboys opened up that offense using...

San Francisco 49ers 8-8 Welcome to the NFC West Week and the San Francisco 49ers 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. The 49ers fell from grace this year. After three years of improvement under the tutelage of Jim Harbaugh, everything seemed to screech to a halt. As could be expected the team made a plethora of moves already this off-season, but let’s take a moment to look back before looking forward. Highs: Anquan Boldin Congrats to Boldin and his re-emergence. He was great. Look at the tape. He was the rock of this team. He ended the season with 83 catches for 1,062 yards and five touchdowns. Back to back 1,000+ yard seasons for the 7th time in his career. He’s 34 years old, so this was even more impressive. Colin Kaepernicks’ Last Two Games If you drafted Colin Kaepernick based on his upside in the preseason, you were sorely disappointed. But if you picked him up out of desperation at the end of the season because you needed a warm body to fill your QB position, you were delighted! In Week 16 they finally let him run with abandon and he racked up 151 yards and scored his only rushing touchdown of the season. In Week 17 he only rushed for 63 yards (still a nice number for a Quarterback) but he added two passing touchdowns to his fantasy performance. Lows: Colin Kaepernick (most of the season) Of the Quarterbacks that started 16 games, only Andy Dalton and Derek Carr had less fantasy points than Colin Kaepernick. He...

Carolina Panthers 7-8 Welcome to the NFC South Week and the Carolina Panthers 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. There was nothing amazing about this team last year. They might have made it through to the second round of playoffs, but struggled to get to the Superbowl with some key holes in their team. Highs: Greg Olsen Greg Olsen, Mr. Consistent, was great averaging 8 fantasy points, which is all we want from our Tight Ends in fantasy. The Panthers know when they have a good thing. They signed Olsen to a three-year deal $22.5 million for an extension through 2018. Kelvin Benjamin Rookie Kelvin Benjamin was defiantly a Rookie but finished in the top 20 receivers. That really doesn’t say much since he was the only receiver on the team unlike the other two Rookies that had more fantasy points (ODB and Mike Evans) that had to fight for targets. Still Benjamin had over 1000 yards and 9 touchdowns. Lows: DeAngelo Williams My low was DeAngelo Williams. A lot of people drafted him but by the end of the season not many people owned him. He only played in 6 games this season, had a total of 263 yards and zero touchdowns. He was quickly replaced by Jonathan Stewart who wasn’t that bad. He had three games over 10 fantasy points in the last five weeks of the season. Obviosely the Carolina Panthers agreed with me because Williams for cut. He has since signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a...

New Orleans Saints 7-9 Welcome to the NFC South Week and the New Orleans Saints 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team. 2014 was disappointing for the Saints considering they didn’t even reach 8-8 and man, oh man they cleaned house at the top of free agency! But let’s look back on the fantasy year that was. Highs: Drew Brees Brees’ best game was in Week 13 at Pittsburgh. He only threw for only 257 yards, but also for five touchdowns. Nice. He did peter out towards the end of the season (only six touchdowns to six interceptions his final four games), but he finished with 4,952 passing yards – tied for highest in the league… with Ben Roethlisberger. Did we not say this was a weird year? Mark Ingram Finally Mark Ingram got the chance to break out from the “Running Back by Committee” situation and show what he is all about. In 13 games he rushed for 964 yards and nine touchdowns. And how did the team reward him? They resigned him to a four-year, $16 million deal… and brought in C.J. Spiller. WHY!?!? The warm and fuzzy thoughts of a dependable RB1 in New Orleans were fleeting ones. Lows: Jimmy Graham Facts are facts: he ended the season as the third highest scoring fantasy Tight End. But frankly, Tight Ends are terrible and Graham was NOT the first round draft pick everyone wanted him to be. Two times he left the game with ZERO points. In one of those games he had ZERO targets. He did score 10...
