The 2014 NFL Draft Can Affect Your Fantasy Football Draft

With the NFL draft creeping closer and closer, obsessive fantasy football owners will be watching in anticipation to find the next diamond in the rough.  The 2014 NFL Draft can affect your fantasy football draft. For those of you who question whether the NFL draft really impacts fantasy leagues, we don’t have to look back very far to see stars that transformed leagues and won owners fantasy championships.  Two years ago we had RG3, Alfred Morris and Doug Martin.  Last year we saw rookies like Eddie Lacy, Le’Von Bell, Zac Stacey, Giovani Bernard, Keenan Allen, and Cordarrelle Patterson fill important roster spots when our high drafted players faded or got injured. Let’s face it, the college game has changed and now more college coaches are installing high-octane pro-style offense than ever before.  This means that offensive skill position players are coming into the League ready to make an immediate impact.  Keep in mind these are players that are bought low (late rounds of a fantasy draft or waiver wire) and maintain a high value.  Each year there is only a couple, so if you manage to snag one you’ve got a clear advantage. So here’s a list of players that could make a splash in their rookie year: Tre Mason, RB, Auburn University:   Playing in the SEC, a conference that has seen some of the best college defenses in a generation, Mason ran for 1,816 yards and scored a whopping 23 TD’s.  Those are impressive numbers for Mason and remember it was Eddie Lacy who put up those kinds of numbers a year ago.  He will have to work...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers May Take QB in First Round of Draft

Mike Glennon might ride the pine next year… and it’s sort of sad. Pat Yasinskas from ESPN reported on Thursday that new head coach, Lovie Smith, confirmed at the combine that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are considering taking a quarterback in the first round. The Bucs have the 7th overall pick so they could have a nice pick of the litter. [blockquote source=”Lovie Smith, Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers”]Whenever you have a chance to get a franchise quarterback, you have to consider that.[/blockquote] If you are Mike Glennon, you’re probably bummed. You started off the year as a rookie backup to Josh Freeman. Freeman and your coach, Greg Schiano, bicker during the preseason and the first few regular season games until the team ships off Freeman in a dramatic manner. You get thrown in as the starting quarterback for a team that goes 0-8, has massive coaching and leadership issues and can’t keep a running back healthy to save their lives. You do your best, learn along the way and attempt to overcome one of the worst rookie situations in the league. With practically all odds against him, Glennon still averaged a 83.9 passer rating. Not fabulous, but he showed promise. And even though Schiano reportedly lost the locker room early in the season, Glennon was his guy. Glennon is not Lovie Smith’s guy, so he’ll have to prove himself all over again. However, Smith seems impressed with Glennon’s work ethic and has nice things to say about him and his passing ability. Pittsburgh Steelers and Emmanuel Sanders Reportedly to Part Ways

This makes me sad. According to Chris Wesseling, Around the League Writer for NFL.com, multiple sources suspect that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Emmanuel Sanders will soon part ways and Sanders will jump into the free agency conversation. Frankly, the Steelers ended up being an embarrassment of riches last year at the wide out position when they boasted a roster made up of Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Jerricho Cotchery (Mr. Random Touchdowns), and the newbie Markus Wheaton. Many sources with close ties to the team think the Steelers will beef up Wheaton’s playing time along with drafting a big wide receiver early. What does this mean for your fantasy football team? 1. Antonio Brown is still a stud muffin and a PPR MVP. Nothing changes. He is fantasy husband material. 2. Jerricho Cotchery is still the guy you play during bye weeks while crossing your fingers for a touchdown. Cotchery did score at least one touchdown in eight of his 16 games last year so it was literally a flip of the coin. The most yards he had in a game when he didn’t score: 59. Ouch. He’s gotta score. 3. Markus Wheaton is officially on the “2012 sleeper list.” Look for fantasy experts to up his draft stock all off-season. Ugh. He’s a round 10 kind of guy at this point. 4. The Steelers draft may yield an awesome wide receiver pick. Time will tell, but with Antonio Brown still the leader of the pack I wouldn’t take a chance drafting another Steelers wide out until rather late. 5. Emmanuel Sanders will be the victim or victor depending on...

Denver Broncos Extend Elway’s Contract And Add GM To Title

John Elway can do it all and the Denver Broncos know just that. Not only did President Joe Ellis rip up the last year of Elway’s contract and gave him another four years, but he also added GM to Elway’s title. After a disappointing end to an amazing season for the Broncos, Elway should know exactly where they need improvements and be ready to pay for it. I can only imagine Elway at Dove Valley getting down to business before the draft. Rumors are flying that Eric Decker will most likely be leaving the Denver Broncos to be a #1 receiver somewhere that can afford to pay him around $9 million. With Manning being able to make any receiver look good, I hope Elway and the Broncos spend more money on the defense. Congratulations to John Elway. We hope that this relationship with the Denver Broncos as VP and GM is as memorable as when Elway played Quarterback for them. Broncos extend John Elway’s contract; add GM to titlePosted: 02/12/2014 09:50:21 AM MST Updated: 02/12/2014 09:53:51 AM MST In contract and title, the Broncos have extended their relationship with John Elway. The most famous employee in team history, Elway has received a three-year contract extension from the Broncos while also tacking on the title, “general manager” to his current position of executive vice president of football operations, according to an NFL source. via...

Colts’ 2012 Draft Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Good

I hope you enjoyed my Curb Your Enthusiasm reference. Such a great show, but back to football… When the Colts threw my favorite player aside, “THE Mr. Peyton Manning”…I thought they had lost their mind. And no, I didn’t become a bandwagon Peyton fan when he joined my beloved Broncos, I have loved him since his days rocking a horseshoe. I even loved him when he was playing against my donkeys,… so you can imagine how thrilled I was when he joined our team. Words can’t express! To give up Peyton Manning for a kid by the name of Andrew Luck….like I said; I thought the Colts had gone mad but when you look at their 2012 draft you can’t argue with them. It might turn out to be one of the best drafts of all time. Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton, Dwayne Allen…these could be big names this season. Could it be the best draft class and was it worth giving up Mr. Manning….only time, a lot of interceptions and a neck injury will tell. Indianapolis Colts’ 2012 draft could be one of NFL’s bestAny discussion of the greatest draft classes in NFL history starts with the 1974 Pittsburgh Steelers group that features four Hall of Fame rs in Jack Lambert, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth and Mike Webster.
