Detroit Lions 5-3 at Chicago Bears 5-3

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Matt Forte

#1 Ranked RB

Lady Lesson Learned: Forte and Marshall are backup and matchup proof.  Trust the players who earn it.  Forte doesn’t even understand a single digit fantasy point game.  He just doesn’t do it.  He averages 16.5 fantasy points per game which is the second best average out of all the RBs in the league.  Love.

Brandon Marshall

#5 Ranked WR

The Bears lean on him and so should you.  He averages 12.84 fantasy points per game, and if you’re in a PPR league, this guy is golden.  It doesn’t matter who’s under center they will throw to Marshall.  On a non-fantasy side note, Marshall can block!  He lays himself out for Forte.  Fun to watch.

Alshon Jeffery

#15 Ranked WR

To beat Detroit and the Megatron miracle, you have to throw.  This could be the Fantasy Orgy of the Week!  Alshon must operate like a big time player to keep the Bears in the game.  Detroit gives up the 4th most fantasy points to opposing WRs and Jeffery averages 11.38 points per game.  Play him.

Gut Calls

Martellus Bennett

#9 Ranked TE

If Cutler plays, Bennett has a better chance at fantasy greatness.  And once again, the Bears have to pass to keep up.  Last week he caught 4 passes for 36 yards.  However, on one of his big plays he was tackled on the one yard line (some think it should have been a TD), so he was one yard shy of a big game.  He’s someone to keep in mind.

Bench Warmers

Jay Cutler

#17 Ranked QB

Cutler’s only on the bench because we’re not sure he’s going to play, and if he starts experiencing any pain, they will put him on the bench.  Originally it was reported that Cutler would miss at least four weeks, but now he’s trying to get back in time for this divisional matchup.  That’s understandable, but it could be risky for your fantasy team.  You’d hate to have Cutler in your starting lineup, only for him to go out in the first series.  If he does play, he’ll probably put up top 10 numbers.  But McCown proved he’s quite competent, and if Cutler feels any pain at all, Trestman will pull Jay and not take a chance.  Food for thought.

Chicago Defense

#22 Ranked DEF

You don’t start a defense against Megatron, Stafford, Bush, etc.  You can’t start them.  Detroit gives up the 7th fewest fantasy points to opposing defenses and the Bears aren’t as nasty this year.  They do average 9.75 points per game, 11th in the league, but not this week.

The Jay Culter/ Brandon Marshall bromance can fuel your fantasy team.  Let it work for you.

This week, we made some gut calls on Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte, Chicago Defense, Jay Cutler, Martellus Bennett and Alshon Jeffery.

Here is an example of what you can find over at Cover32.com, by Her Fantasy Football:

Play ‘Em If Got ‘Em

Brandon Marshall
#3 Ranked WR
We said he’d have a bounce back game last week, and he did. No one puts Baby Brandon in the corner. Jay Cutler made sure to feed the ball to Marshall, which garnered him 87 yards receiving and two TDs. Cutler and Marshall will never break up. Even when a pretty, young thing turns Cutler’s head (yeah, we’re talking to you, Alshon), Jay makes sure to right the ship. Never bench Marshall. Don’t get cute. You will lose.

None of the Bears need benching. Not yet.

New York Giants at Chicago Bears

Our tagline for this game: “There will be blood.”  This game could get ugly, fast.  But we have our money on this also being a fantasy gold mine for the Bears players and your fantasy team.

This week, we made some gut calls on Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, the Chicago Defense, Alshon Jeffery, Jay Cutler and even Robbie Gould.

One of our calls:

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Brandon Marshall

#3 Ranked WR

Giants give up the 9th most fantasy points to WRs.  Brandon Marshall had a tough game last week with only 30 yards receiving. Luckily for fantasy owners, he did also get a TD. Jay Cutler isn’t going to let him feel bad for two weeks in a row. Look for Marshall to pick apart a Giants secondary that MUST also defend the emerging Alshon Jeffery. We smell a bounce back.

Chicago BearsOh, for cute!

Lester A. Wiltfong Jr., writer for windycitygridiron.com, sites Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte, and… Jay Cutler as the top 3 Chicago Bears Fantasy Studs.

First, Marshall is a stud.  In fact, one could make an argument that he could be the number one receiver in the league next year.  I’m not sure I agree, but I could stomach the argument.  I would LOVE to have Marshall on my team.  He tends to go off the board while I’m trying to draft a decent running back, but I got him in two leagues last year and was pleased.  However, if the team wants to win games and have a chance at the playoffs, they need to spread the ball around.  But I’m not too worried.  Marshall isn’t going to fall out of favor with his career BFF, Cutler, anytime soon.  He will ALWAYS get his fair share of targets.  Assessment: Marshall = Fantasy Happiness

Second, Matt Forte is another stud.  Especially if you are in a PPR league.  Forte can catch the ball and as I already stated, the Bears MUST move the ball around and try to trick Defenses.  Sadly, Forte is a victim to the “TD Vulture.”  And the Vulture’s name is Michael Bush.  In real football, I’m a big Bush fan (snickers), but when it comes to fantasy football, he makes me cross.  Either way, now that the league seems to be littered with teams employing the “run by committee scheme” you want Forte on your team.  Assessment: Forte = Good Fantasy Option

Third… Cutler.  Did you ever see that South Park episode where Stan and Kyle get to meet Jay Cutler because they had over 100,000 points on Guitar Hero?  Here’s the clip:

Yes, this is when he was with the Denver Broncos, but I think the sentiment holds true.  Cutler is Mr. Potential.  And he can have great games, and then he can throw more interceptions than your grandma on a cold day.  He’s #19 in our rankings, and that’s only because Philip Rivers tanked last season and everyone else is still competing for their spot (on or off the record).

Fourth, well… If there can only be three options for Bears fantasy gold, then the third pick should have been the Chicago Defense.  They KILLED me in numerous match-ups last year.  I know everyone tells you that Defenses don’t matter but if you had Chicago or Seattle last year, it mattered.  Using Her Fantasy Football Scoring (which pretty much matches Standard Scoring in most leagues) Chicago was the number one scoring Defense in 2012, by 40 points!

All that being said, the team took on a new coach, so a lot is in the air.  Good luck, Windy City.  Good luck!

Who is your #1 Fantasy Football Chicago Bears draft pick? With NFL training camps a few weeks away, the fantasy football players are already beginning preparation for their drafts. We want to know who you think will be the top Chicago Bears player drafted in your league?
