Well, the Steelers aren’t throwing in that yellow towel, but you should forget about any productive Tight End play from the Steelers.

According to steelers.com, Tight End Matt Spaeth was put on the injured reserve/designated for return list.  He can return to practice after the sixth week and can get back in the game after the eighth game of the season.  That’s a long ways into the fantasy season.

Then there’s his backup, David Johnson.  He started the season on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list due to a knee issue, but then he started looking healthy and he appeared in the last two preseason games.  That’s great for the team, but Johnson will have little to no fantasy value, i.e. yards/touchdowns.

The other two healthy Tight Ends on the team are the same way.  Both David Paulson and Michael Palmer will make great blocks and create some matchup problems, but that won’t help you, fantasy ladies.

The only guy who can come even CLOSE to making a fantasy impact is TE Heath Miller.  But after tearing every ligament in his knee, he’s still on the mend.  There is no time-table for his return, but they did take him off the PUP list and he’s easing into practice.  We wish Heath Miller a speedy recovery.  And if that does happen, he could be a sneaky late bye week fill-in.

Other than that, look for a Tight End elsewhere.  This poor team has a TE injury curse.  Good luck to all of them!

Pittsburgh Steelers Acquire RB Felix Jones from the Eagles, Try to Lick RB Le’Veon Bell Wound http://herfantasyfootball.com/2013/08/23/pittsburgh-steelers-acquire-rb-felix-jones-from-the-eagles/ http://herfantasyfootball.com/2013/08/23/pittsburgh-steelers-acquire-rb-felix-jones-from-the-eagles/#comments Fri, 23 Aug 2013 15:56:08 +0000 Brandon Marianne Lee http://herfantasyfootball.com/?p=1292 Pittsburgh Steelers scrambled to add another RB into the mix once they realized that although early reports indicate the RB Le’Veon Bell will not need surgery on his mid-foot sprain, the injury will hold him our 6 to 8 weeks.  And let’s be honest, if you’ve ever played fantasy football, you know that a foot […]

Pittsburgh Steelers scrambled to add another RB into the mix once they realized that although early reports indicate the RB Le’Veon Bell will not need surgery on his mid-foot sprain, the injury will hold him our 6 to 8 weeks.  And let’s be honest, if you’ve ever played fantasy football, you know that a foot injury can linger all season, and beyond.

They put together a player for player trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.  They gave the Eagles Outside LB Adrian Robinson for RB Felix Jones.  I like player-for-player trades.  They feel like old school football, so I’m all in.

So, where does that leave the backfield?  Felix Jones with join the middling group of backup RBs that are destined to become a “Running Back By Committee”: Jonathan Dwyer, Isaac Redman, Baron Batch and the goal-line back LaRod Stephens-Howling.  No one’s been talking about it, but out of all these guys (included the band-aid Felix Jones) I would only take LaRod Stephens-Howling.  You can get him late in the draft, and we know he’s the goal-line guy.  I think he’s going to have more of a workload, but that’s a prediction.  Either way, he is the only guy in the many-head monster that has a defined role in this offense, and a consistent one.  He has some fantasy value, especially during those rough bye weeks.

Report: Eagles trade RB Felix Jones to Steelers for LB Adrian RobinsonThe Steelers need a running back and the Eagles need to bolster a defense that was among the worst last season — and didn’t look much different through two preseason games. To that end, Pittsburgh has traded outside linebacker Adrian Robinson to Philly in exchange for running back Felix Jones, according to NFL reporter Adam Caplan.

Yeah, we’ve been hearing all about Le’Veon Bell during the off-season.  Since the moment he was drafted, pretty much every expert or pseudo expert declared him the inevitable starter.

He’s not officially the starter, yet, but he is taking the majority of the snaps.  There are two reasons for that: 1. They know the other RBs on the team and they need to evaluate Bell and 2. He’s going to be the starter.

Let’s all admit he’s going to be the guy.  I don’t think he’s going to be the next Doug Martin or Alfred Morris, but he will start and will get touches.  So, when you get to that backup RB section of your draft, make sure to take Le’Veon Bell before a backup.  He’ll get points.

Pittsburgh SteelersIt’s the exact same operation he underwent seven years ago with an estimated 4 to 6 week recovery time.

Handsome Coach of the Year, Mike Tomlin, assured the press that this procedure “will have no long-term effects on [Roethlisberger's] health.”

USA Today reported the surgery was a scope to “clean out some cartilage.”

ESPN NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, talked about how Roethlisberger was participating at practice in full, but decided his knee felt funny so he brought it to the team’s attention.

Everyone seems to believe that this surgery is a simple tune-up and Big Ben can be 100% come go time.  And I believe everyone.  However, without Mike Wallace and with a lengthy injury and surgical history, Ben Roethlisberger is only QB2 material in the same tier as Matt Schaub, Carson Palmer, and the like.  He missed three games last year due to a rare rib/shoulder injury.  If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

Best of luck and we’re hoping for a speedy recovery.
