As expected Allen had a big week last week with 14 points. The Raiders are worse than the average DEF in the league in defending WRs, so look for Allen to have another solid week. You should be able to expect double digit points.

He should been a top 10 QB last week against the Broncos DEF who gives up the 9^th most points and didn’t quite come out as big as one would hope. The good news is that the Raiders give up the 3^rd most points. If youj take that into consideration and remember that it is December which is River’s sweet spot, could be magic.

Gates has not produced a number that you would be even remotely satisfied with since week 11 and this week will be no different as the Raiders give up the 10^th fewest points to TEs.

I don’t have any must starts but a lot of gut calls that verge on must starts so let’s go through those.

Gut Calls

Ladarius Green

Not Ranked TE

Rivers is finding a good connection with Green the past few weeks scoring no less than 8 points in his last three match-ups. The Giants give up the 9^th most fantasy points to WRs so Greens should have another big week.

Keenan Allen

#15 Ranked WR

The rookie Allen has had two pretty good weeks, weeks that are worth of consideration for a WR2 or WR3 depending on your league. Rivers should be able to air the ball out so all the WRs from the Chargers should have a good chance at scoring points.

Chargers DEF

#14 Ranked DEF

Eli Manning if you haven’t noticed has been keen to producing turnovers and turnovers are great for DEFs. In fact they give up the most points to DEFs so this could be a very good match-up.

Rivers borders on being a gut call because the Giants DEF is so bad, but the problem is that there have been many other QBS that have been scoring more points and more points consistently.

Can you feel it, the sweet smell in the air of December for Philip Rivers? This man doesn’t lose in December. It is uncanny and he is getting warmed up for the month. He pulled out a big win last week under pressure and he is riding high. He scored 27 fantasy points last week and even though he will be up against a tough defense who gives up the 7^th fewest points, he should be able to score in the 20s.

Keenan Allen

#20 Ranked WR

Rivers is getting hot which means so is one of his WRs and Allen is the best option on the team. Eddie Royal can get hot but he has been injury plagued so he is not the direction where you should look. The Bengals give up the 10^th fewest points to WRs so Allen and Rivers will have their work cut out for them, but Rivers has that glisten in his eyes which means good things for the Chargers.

Danny Woodhead

#28 Ranked RB

Woodhead is on the verge of “Must Start” status with Mathews probably out with his hamstring issue and considering Woodhead’s bounce back game last week. Scoring 18 fantasy points is certainty a way to come back. If you can overlook Week 11, you have a solid, solid flex option. The only other reason that he is not a “Must Start” is because the Bengals give up the 5^th fewest points to RBs.

Dalton has been throwing a lot of INTs recently but the Chargers Defense is not good enough to overcome his TDs that go along with INTs. Don’t start the Chargers; they will be in the single digits this week.

The Chargers give up a lot of points to WRs and Green is an above average WR. Dalton really struggled the last time they played but they had a bye week to figure out the issues so expect a big week from Green. Fingers crossed Dalton pulls it together.

Giovani Bernard

#16 Ranked RB

In Week 9, Bernard scored 21 fantasy points. In Week 10, he scored 14 fantasy points and in Week 11 he scored 8 points. So while he is not trending in the right direction, he is still scoring enough points to qualify him as a RB2. The Chargers are a mediocre defense in defending RBs so Bernard should be able to score you a good amount of points.

The Bengals have one of the top DEFs in the league this year, but they play the Chargers who have allowed the 3^rd fewest points to DEFs this year. We are getting closer and closer to December, which is Dear Philip’s favorite time of year. They won’t be a bad play but check the waiver wire to see if there is a team out there with a better match-up.

Andy Dalton

#8 Ranked QB

This is a crap shoot. Dalton scored 10 TDs in the past four games, but he has also thrown nine INTs in the past four games. That equals out to very average fantasy points. So, what does this mean? It means he throws enough TDs to have his team around him score fantasy points worthy of starts but it means you should bench Dalton for being unpredictable.

Ryan Mathews

#20 Ranked RB

We never feel good about telling you to start Ryan Mathews but the fact of the matter is that he is getting almost 20 touches and when you get the ball that much it is fairly hard to not score points. Last week marked his 3^rd 100+ yard game in the last 5 weeks and he was the 13^th highest scoring RB last week making him a very viable RB2. Mathews rushed for 127 yards against Miami, who has, granted, the 4^th worst rush attack, but if he had found the end zone it would have been a huge week. The Chiefs give up the 8^th fewest points to RBs so don’t expect as big of a week.

Antonio Gates

#8 Ranked TE

Gates had a good week last week being the 6^th highest scoring TE with 11 points. Now, Gates would have had a very average week had he not scored a TD. It was his first TD since week 4 so let’s hope he reminded Rivers that he is a nice big reliable target in the end zone. KC is the toughest DEF against TEs but they didn’t exactly shut Julius Thomas down last week so Gates has some hope.

Danny Woodhead

#27 Ranked RB

He is and will always be an excellent option in a flex position or RB2 if you are in a PPR league. Sadly his touches have gone down slightly with the Chargers attempt to solidify Mathews as an actually RB in the NFL. Woodhead had a bad week last week, but that is a rarity and he should still be considered.

Keenan Allen, Eddie Royal and any other San Diego WR

#21 Ranked WR and #60 Ranked WR

Last week was not a good week for the San Diego WRs. Allen scored the most points with a whopping 4 and Royal scored 2 points. Philips spread the ball around so no one really stood out fantasy-wise. Allen is your best option if you need to start one of them but the KC secondary is very stout and give up the 12^th fewest points to opposing WRs so this is not a great match-up.

#15 Ranked QB

When Peyton Manning doesn’t even break into the top 10 QBs for the week against the KC Chiefs, you know they are a nasty good DEF. Philip is no Peyton this year so don’t think that Philip will fare any better. The Chiefs gives up the 7^th fewest points to QBs so this is not the week to start Rivers. The fact that he has scored somewhere between 12 and 18 points the last 6 weeks shouldn’t help your confidence in him this week.

There are no must starts….and not just because they imploded last week, but because these aren’t the best match-ups or are too risky for your line-up.

Ryan Mathews

#21 Ranked RB

We really don’t know what to say. Seriously, this guy is beyond frustrating and he will frustrate you in your line up. He scored 3 fantasy points two weeks ago and then 11 points last week. He is up against the 2^nd worst rush defense in the league so maybe he will have a decent week. No one knows. And we mean no one.

Danny Woodhead

#14 Ranked RB

If you are in a PPR league, Woodhead is a must start.  If not, he is a gut check. He and Mathews split carries and Woodhead has been scoring mediocre points. If Mathews is “Mathews,” then Woodhead should have a good game.  If Mathews decides to play, then Woodhead will have an average game. It’s all up in the air…or ground for that matter.

Philip Rivers

#9 Ranked QB

Everyone expected Philip to have a big week against the Broncos, but that didn’t happen. He only threw for 200 some yards and was sacked many times. The Dolphins have given up the 5^th fewest points to QBs so don’t expect Rivers to buck any trends this week.

Keenan Allen

#12 Ranked WR

The Dolphins have a very good secondary, and with the majority of the drama behind them, look for them to be as good as ever. Allen should have had more than 4 fantasy points last week against the Broncos, so he will either bounce back this week or fall prey to gritty corners. If any of the Chargers receivers have upside, it would be Allen.

Eddie Royal

#54 Ranked WR

Last week was the week Royal should have shined. He only caught 2 passes for a total of 3 fantasy points. The Dolphins have a very nasty secondary, giving up the 4^th fewest points, so this is not the week for Philip to air the ball out to Royal.

Where Philip is, INTs follow. The good news is that he throws for tons of yards, 341 to be exact last week.  He throws TDs as well. His 2 TDs last week helped him get you 18 fantasy points and he was the 12^th highest scoring QB. Overall, Philip is the 5^th highest scoring QB so far this season.  This week he plays the Broncos in a divisional matchup and in what is usually a shoot out.  Did we mention the Broncos give up the 7^th most points to QBs?  Philip sure hopes so.

Keenan Allen

#10 Ranked WR

Welcome to the starting roster my friend. Three out of his last four games have produced double digit fantasy scored.  Philip has to throw to someone and Allen is the guy. He scored 18 fantasy points last week, then a bye, then a measly 6, but then he had 16 and 17 points. We like what we see.  This guy is owned in less than half of the leagues out there. Pick him up and play him against the Broncos terrible secondary.

Gut Calls

Antonio Gates

#6 Ranked TE

Gates had an okay week against the Redskins who are just okay at defending TEs.  The Broncos are slightly worse so expect slightly better numbers than last week. He is the 7^th highest scoring TE overall thus far this season so you probably still need to play him.

Danny Woodhead

#16 Ranked RB

He had a pretty decent game last week scoring 9 fantasy points. With the Broncos DEF being not-so-great against the rush or the pass, this should play nicely into what Woodhead can offer the Chargers and his fantasy owners.

Eddie Royal

#49 Ranked WR

Royal also had a nice week with 56 yards and 1 TD. You can score on the Broncos so Royal might be able to find the end zone again making it 3 weeks in a row. We don’t like him as much as we like Allen, but he is still a viable option.

We say this about every team that plays the Broncos: not a wise start. Denver gives up the fewest points to opposing defenses and we don’t think this week will be any different.

Ryan Mathews

#25 Ranked RB

There you are, back on the bench. One might argue that he had tow back-to-back 100 yard performances and perhaps last week was out of the norm and you can expect him to bounce back. You would be wrong. We are going with history on this one, and he is historically bad.

Ah Philip. He never disappoints, giving us exactly what we expect from him: interceptions. Last game he gave you 3 interceptions, to be exact. Even with those mistakes he was able to get you 18 points from his 400+ yard pass attack and 2 TDs. Philip Rivers is Philip Rivers. Once you learn to accept that, you will be less frustrated with him when you start him every week; which you have to do as he is producing the 4th most fantasy points out of all the QBs in the league. Stick with this interception throwing fool; he’ll make you look foolish if you don’t.
