Pittsburgh Steelers and Emmanuel Sanders Reportedly to Part Ways
This makes me sad.
According to Chris Wesseling, Around the League Writer for NFL.com, multiple sources suspect that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Emmanuel Sanders will soon part ways and Sanders will jump into the free agency conversation.
Frankly, the Steelers ended up being an embarrassment of riches last year at the wide out position when they boasted a roster made up of Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Jerricho Cotchery (Mr. Random Touchdowns), and the newbie Markus Wheaton. Many sources with close ties to the team think the Steelers will beef up Wheaton’s playing time along with drafting a big wide receiver early.
What does this mean for your fantasy football team?
1. Antonio Brown is still a stud muffin and a PPR MVP. Nothing changes. He is fantasy husband material.
2. Jerricho Cotchery is still the guy you play during bye weeks while crossing your fingers for a touchdown. Cotchery did score at least one touchdown in eight of his 16 games last year so it was literally a flip of the coin. The most yards he had in a game when he didn’t score: 59. Ouch. He’s gotta score.
3. Markus Wheaton is officially on the “2012 sleeper list.” Look for fantasy experts to up his draft stock all off-season. Ugh. He’s a round 10 kind of guy at this point.
4. The Steelers draft may yield an awesome wide receiver pick. Time will tell, but with Antonio Brown still the leader of the pack I wouldn’t take a chance drafting another Steelers wide out until rather late.
5. Emmanuel Sanders will be the victim or victor depending on who throws him the ball. He’s a very talented player and just needs the right situation to highlight his skills. If he goes to a team that needs a compliment to a big stud (I’m thinking the Lions) I believe Sanders will make out the winner. If he goes to a ground-and-pound team, or a team where he would have to be the number one guy (I’m thinking the Jets) then you need to take him down your fantasy boards.
So many questions. So few answers. I’m already missing football season.
