Carolina Panthers – Fantasy Forecast – Week 16

Cover32LogoNew Orleans Saints 10-4 at Carolina Panthers 10-4

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Here are some defensive numbers that may come as a surprise to you: New Orleans gives up the 4th fewest fantasy points to opposing QBs, the 13th fewest to RBs, the 6th fewest to WRs, the 9th fewest to TEs and the 4th fewest to opposing DEFs. Oh, and for good measure, they give up the 5th fewest fantasy points to opposing Kickers as well. This game will be a defensive battle, so the chance of fantasy gold is slim.

Gut Calls

Cam Newton

#13 Ranked QB

The last time these two teams played (in other words, two weeks ago) Cam scored 15.20 fantasy points. That was an away game, but we still think he’ll be in the 15 to 17 point range at home. Last week he played against the Jets at home and Cam scored 16.12 fantasy points. Are you smelling what we’re stepping in? Those numbers won’t lose your match-up for you, but they won’t put you over the top either. He’s a stud, but maybe not the studliest in this match up.

Carolina Defense

#11 Ranked DEF

The Panthers Defense is superb. However, their worst game of the season was against the Saints two weeks ago when they only garnered 1.00 fantasy points for their owners. Ouch. We think they will fare better at home, but you can’t count on a double-digit fantasy outing when your defense goes up against Brees. But don’t fear. If you play fantasy in Week 17, the Panthers play the Falcons. Whoopie!

Bench Warmers

Steve Smith

#33 Ranked WR

This is the championship. Steve Smith only scored double-digit fantasy numbers in three games this entire season. You’re better off taking a chance on a Cordelle Patterson from the Vikings or Ace Saunders from the Jaguars than taking the five or so fantasy points you know Steve Smith will get you.
