Michael Vick a New York Jet? So you’re saying there’s a chance…

As the free agency talk fires up, you will hear all sorts of wild, hopeful and head-scratching predictions. But a prediction that actually makes sense… Michael Vick a New York Jet.

And here’s why there’s a chance:

  • Jets offensive coordinator, Marty Mornhinweg, is Vick’s former offensive coordinator with the Eagles.
  • According to Dan Hanzus, Around the League Writer for NFL.com, Rex and Rob Ryan shared a box with Andy Reid on Monday at the NFL Scouting Combine. Reid coached Vick from 2009 to 2012 and was a large part of Vick’s return to the NFL after… the incident. Maybe Andy got to endorse his former QB. That, of course, is just a fun speculation.
  • The Jets lack a veteran QB as a backup or otherwise.
  • The Jets love the back page news. This could be their “circus of the season.”

Picking up Vick is an okay idea for the Jets, but you wouldn’t draft Vick or Smith for your fantasy team. Vick plays some great games, and then he gets hurt. That’s the pattern up until now, so don’t bank on change. Geno was alright half of his rookie season, but the other half of the games were terrible.

In standard scoring leagues, Geno Smith scored less than FIVE fantasy points in six of the 16 games and in the negative numbers twice! Smith also threw 21 interceptions in 2013. But Joe Flacco and Carson Palmer threw 22 and Eli Manning led them all with 27. Epic.

No matter what, Geno will fight for his starting spot and the Jets are going to make sure he feels competition. This should get interesting. Anyone feel a Sanchez/Tebow cold-front coming through???

Michael Vick could land with New York JetsCould Michael Vick’s next home be at the Meadowlands? NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that, based on conversations in the past week, it’s clear the Jets are viewed as a legitimate possible landing spot for the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, according to sources informed of the Jets’ thinking.
