A Fantasy Football Selfie with Keith Lott of We Talk Fantasy Sports

Each week the ladies of Her Fantasy Football will dive into the women and men behind some of the best fantasy football resources on the web. Fantasy Selfies will give you some insight into how each of these fantasy fanatics think (or don’t – ha!)  This week we got to know a little bit more about the super ambitious Keith Lott of We Talk Fantasy Sports.

** Note: This is a Halloween photo. Keith is on the left, Mike is on the right. You’ll learn more about Mike below.

1. How did We Talk Fantasy Sports get started? Why did you decide to take on this venture?

My brother Michael and I have been debating sports our whole lives and very rarely do we agree, so we decided to take our opinions to the most scrutinized place in the world…the internet!  Plus, there is no better way to be prepared for your own drafts, and staying up to date throughout the season than trying to help others!

2. You cover more than just fantasy football. You also report on fantasy baseball, basketball, golf! How do you do it all? What can a fantasy fan expect from you and your site?

We are always looking to writers to help get as much content published as possible!  On our site you will find a ton of honest opinions, and while we will not be breaking any news, we will be breaking DOWN the news!  Everyone has questions and we have opinions… “Lotts” of them!

Pun on the last name but no one really gets it, we just go with the standard spelling on our About Us page.

3. Who is your favorite real football team and how did you fall in love with them?

We are New York Giants football fans and we have our father to thank for that!  Unfortunately, he also raised us to be New York Mets and Knicks fans, too…

4. How did you start playing fantasy football?

Our father has been playing fantasy baseball since the early 90’s… yes prior to internet based leagues.  They used to get weekly updates in the mail!  Our older brother started playing fantasy football with his friends and thankfully we were invited to join them.  We have since taken over ownership of the original league and I am now the commissioner.

5. How do you prepare for your fantasy draft? How do you research? Do you go in with a set system or does it vary by league?

I can’t speak for Mike, but I used to go with the set RB/RB draft format but these days I’m thinking about making some changes to my draft strategy.  I love reading any and every blog and “expert” website in the months leading up to draft day as well as XM radio fantasy sports channel and local sports radio.

6. How many leagues do you play in and what are their formats? Standard, PPR, daily, etc.

I tend to play in up to 5 leagues a year, just 2 for money, and aim for PPR over standard.  We also play daily fantasy football about once a month.  We aren’t made of money over here!

7. During the season, when you need to decide between two players to start, what attribute/stat/news item will normally tip you one way or the other?

I tend to roll with the hot hand.  Bye weeks can be stressful!  I also like to see the popular pickups/drops, especially if I am stuck between two players on waivers.

8. Please name five players you think have a major chance at stud-dom and three players that scare the crap out of you this year. Eek!

Stud-dom: RG3, Montee Ball, Justin Hunter, Aaron Dobson, Delanie Walker

Scared of : Doug Martin, Toby Gerhart, Eric Decker

9. What are you drinking, booze or otherwise?

Vodka Tonic!

10. What’s your favorite book / tv show / movie? It can’t be all football all the time, right?

Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Homeland, Family Guy, South Park, Brooklyn 99, The Walking Dead, and Turn

Bonus Round: Pimp your wares! Tell us where we can find you, follow you, read you, etc.
