At the moment Aaron Hernandez is not believed to be a murder suspect but his involvement is not clear. The Massachusetts State police searched his home yesterday and are looking for some key evidence including a rental car key and a vehicle in his name. We will keep you posted as more information is released.
ESPN New York announced today that NY Jets RB, Mike Goodson, is being sued for child support and health insurance for four children a woman in Houston claimed he father between 2005 and 2011. Busy bee.
Back in the good ‘ole days, let’s say March, Goodson was considered a great free agent sleeper with tremendous upside who seemed to have simply been buried in depth charts since he entered the league. The first three years of his career he was a Carolina Panther, the number three in the “committee of two” known as D’Angelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Then he went to the Oakland Raiders and found himself odd man out again behind Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece. But the NY Jets picked him up and he was figuring as the guy to beat for the starting position. Even when the Jets picked up Chris Ivory most people still thought Goodson had a shot. The NFL refrains from saying much about player suspensions. The St Louis Rams have remained mum and Pead’s agent, Rick Smith, has refused every opportunity to comment.
What we do know: St Louis Rams running back, Isaiah Pead, is suspended for one game.
The Rams claim to have known about this pending suspension for a while, but it does seem to come at a bad time. Since Steven Jackson left St Louis to join the Atlanta Falcons there’s been a three-horse race for the blue ribbon. Pead will compete all preseason with both Daryl Richardson and rookie Zac Stacy. Fantasy owners should take note of this trio and how each are performing, but only for a backup for your backup. When there’s no clear starter, there is no clear fantasy option. It’s all guessing, so choose wisely.
No matter the amount of effort, someone other than Pead will start Week 1 at home against the Arizona Cardinals.
Profootball Talk on nbcsports.com confirms that Justin Blackmon of the Jacksonville Jaguars will be suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season.
Mr. Blackmon had two DUIs within a year which seem to have counted as his first two strikes, but this third and most recent incident is unclear.
Blackmon is a fantasy hit or miss with or without the suspension. Jacksonville continually struggles at QB and although Mr. Blackmon is an on field talent, his off the field antics plague his productivity. When we start looking over our fantasy draft rankings, the suspension drops this otherwise talented athlete almost off the drafting board entirely. Get it together.
These news anchors in the clip lose it. And then I lose it.
I know this isn’t football related, but it’s sports, and fun. And that’s what Sundays are all about.
Ryan Lochte is funny, and an Olympian. I respect that. It’s sort of meta, like a Ryan Lochte of Ryan Lochte. Could Ryan Lochte eventually be a verb? I don’t know. But he is awesome.
Santa Monica police report that Sunday Night Football staple, Al Michaels, was charged with a misdemeanor DUI in Southern California on Friday night. Supposedly he was arrested just before 10pm and spent less than 5 hours in the Santa Monica City Jail as reported by the Los Angeles Inmate Information Center. Officers made clear that Michaels was cooperative and released on his own recognizance Saturday morning. Neither NBC, home of Sunday Night Football, nor Al Michaels have any comments at this time. I’m a fan of Sunday Night Football, and this situation makes me sad. It sounds like no one got hurt, so that’s nice. But really, people, call a cab! Not worth this trouble!
