Major off season moves have been made, now that the NFL draft is over. We will go through each team to talk about the major draft picks and how this will impact the team for the 2018 season. We will also do our draft, in which we select the teams that we will cover each week for the new season.
In this week’s episode; Brandon actually wants the Bears back to cover this year, Ashley says to go grab Courtland Sutton and Royce Freeman, and Courtney is upset over the Sam Darold pick up as a Josh McCown fan.

We will go through each fantasy relevant draft pick and let you know what you could expect from them this season. In this episode, Brandon likes Jamaal Williams from the Packers who is being compared to Frank Gore…and that is a good thing. Courtney loves how versatile the Panthers team is now and thinks it will create mass amounts of mismatches and Ashley thinks this will be the season when the Jaguars are fantasy relevant again.

Ashley gets the Seattle Seahawks for a third year in a row, Courtney for the first time will NOT cover her Dolphins, and Brandon (as always) did not get a single team that she wanted. Listen in to see where the other teams fell.

Will new offensive coordinator help New York Giants? Ben McAdoo hopes that he is the man to do the job. In an offseason that saw a shuffling of some of the NFL’s top talent, there has also been a major change of offensive coordinators. A new coordinator can bring renewed hope to those offenses that struggled last year and if you heard Brandon Lee on our Her Fantasy Football Podcast last season you know the Giants were definitely one of the offenses that needed a change. Beware, a new coordinator does not always mean immediate success, in fact a new coordinator means learning a new system instead of refining an old one.

McAdoo comes from the Green Bay Packers where he was most recently the QBs coach. Not a bad addition if you consider that Eli Manning is coming off the worse season of his NFL career. His expertise will no doubt help the struggling QB, but the biggest factor for the Giants success this year will be their offensive line.

While many people will say that Eli is a horrible QB after last year’s performance, there was an underlying reason for his play: the offensive line. The line was terrible last year, one of the worst in the league. The Giants were very busy this offseason by accruing OT Charles Brown, G’s Geoff Schwartz and John Jerry as free agents. They opted to take WR Odell Beckham Jr. with their first round pick and waited till the second round to add C Weston Richburg from Colorado State. History has taught us that a team can have the best skill position players, but without a skilled offensive line they will fail. Hopefully with a new offensive coordinator and all the new players on the line, the New York Giants will be more like the 2007 or 2011 team then the 2013 Giants team that fans would like to forget.

Some fun facts about Eli Manning’s 2013 performance:

Completion Percentage – 57.5 – Ranked 32nd

Number of Sacks – 39 – 11th

Number of Interceptions – 27 – Ranked 1st

Number of TDs – 18 – Ranked 21st

Total Fantasy Points 2013 - 162 - 21st

What does this mean for your fantasy football team? You are still not going to draft Eli Manning.

Rookie tight ends are not the most reliable of fantasy football players, but the position is so hot and cold you have to take a look at everyone.

And before we get too cute, let’s look at Jimmy Graham’s rookie season:

31 receptions, 356 receiving yards, 5 touchdowns - total of 65.6 fantasy points in standard scoring.

Take note: with a total of 65.6 points Jimmy would have been the 20th highest scoring fantasy tight end in 2013. Also, he only started 5 games his rookie season - so image how amazing he was as a plug and play.

More than with any other position we really mean “watch.” Do not draft these rookie tight ends, but keep an eye out for them and consider each of them for a bye week fill-in. Also, if you play dynasty, you may want to bank on one of these guys later in the draft. It’s a smart move. And here is why:

New York Jets ThumbnailJace Amaro (New York Jets): He wasn’t the first tight end taken off the board, but in my opinion, he has the greatest potential for early production. The New York Jets picked up a stud wide receiver (Eric Decker) and a stud running back (Chris Johnson) in the off season so you knew they were looking for a stud tight end to round out the pack. Amaro is 6’5″, 260 pounds and Texas Tech mostly used him as an inside receiver which is exactly what he’ll do in MetLife Stadium. He started 10 of 13 games in 2013 and amassed 106 catches for 1.352 yards and seven touchdowns. He set the FBS record for receiving yards by a tight end. In 2012 he was arrested for a credit card fraud charge, but later the charges were dropped and he was ejected from the Mieneke Car Care Bowl for throwing a punch (irony). He’s spunky, the perfect Jet and his tape was phenomenal.

Arizona Cardinals ThumbnailTroy Niklas (Arizona Cardinals): The Cardinals are getting sneaky good, and drafting Niklas from Notre Dame at pick 20 in the second round of the draft was just another step in their mastermind plan to come out and surprise people. Well, I’m calling it now,. Niklas will be a nice red zone target and he should be on your radar. Now. This guy started at Notre Dame as a true freshman as a linebacker. In 2012 he converted to tight end and backed up Tyler Eifert (now a Cincinnati Bengal) and in 2013 he started all 13 games and caught 32 passes for 498 yards and five touchdowns… all while being 6’6″ and 270 pounds and blocking like a champ. He’s athletic, huge, can catch the ball and he’s already pretty darn good after only two years at the position. Arizona needs him and he will play. He will be a fantastic fantasy start in match-ups weak against tight ends. P.S. I’m loving the Bruce Arians hats.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers ThumbnailAustin Seferian-Jenkins (Tampa Bay Buccaneers): Her Fantasy Football analyst Courtney Kirby will love this guy’s name. More than that, he’s 6’5″, 262 pounds and the ideal red zone target. The Buccaneers are so different this year, so it’s hard to know exactly whether or not he will play a role, and how soon. Fellow tight end Tim Wright also shows promise so we might not see a lot of Seferian-Jenkins this year. He’s also a bit of a wild card. Austin was arrested in March of 2013 for driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.18, pleaded guilty and served minimal time and paid a $695 fine. He also was suspended for the season opener against Boise State. If he can keep his nose clean and dedicate himself to blocking as well as catching the ball he could be very successful.

Detroit Lions ThumbnailEric Ebron (Detroit Lions): Don’t get me wrong, I love the Ebron and think he should have been the first tight end taken off the boards at the 2014 NFL Draft. I also loved that he proposed to his fiance on top of the Empire State Building on draft day. That’s big time. Maybe I’ve been burned by Detroit Lions’ tight ends too many times. Maybe I’m hesitant to buy into a tight end on a team with two other fantasy relevant tight ends (Joseph Fauria and Brandon Pettigrew). Ebron has AMAZING athleticism and broke Vernon Danis’ ACC conference record for receiving yards last year. He’s huge, he’s fast, he’s fun, and if I were in a dynasty league he would be one of my top targets this year. If I’m playing single year fantasy then you need to make the Lions prove they have a plan before you buy into Ebron’s 2014 fantasy appeal.

Houston Texans ThumbnailC.J. Fiedorowicz (Houston Texans): C.J. stands for Colton John. I needed to get that out of the way. Fiedorowicz was the best blocking tight end in the class. He and the Texans keep saying he has great ball skills and I don’t doubt them. In 2013 he caught 30 passes for 299 yards and 6 touchdowns at Iowa. He’s 6’5″, 265 pounds and can help protect the quarterback. He’s perfect for Houston, but may not be the guy for your fantasy team. However, keep you eye out for red zone targets. He feels like a Heath Miller to me. The Texans also still have Garrett Graham, Ryan Griffin and Zach Potter on the roster so don’t look for the team to push C.J. out there if he’s not ready.

So, would you draft one of these guys? Anyone you just love?

No longer is the college game just about a power running game. The 2014 NFL Draft was one filled with talented wide receivers ready to make their mark on the NFL. These guys are potential Fantasy Husbands.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers ThumbnailMike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - In the NFL, success is as much about situation as it is about talent. Evan couldn’t be in a better position to succeed. First, Evans is huge at 6-5 and 231 pounds and has a history of playing against and shredding tough, SEC defenses. Before the draft he drew comparisons to Tampa Bay’s WR Vincent Jackson because of his size, speed and great hands. Now, Evans will be opposite Jackson in a division that lacks real talent at the cornerback position. It helps that Evans has a solid QB to throw him the ball in Josh McCown whom we all know I LOVE. Evans will be a red zone nightmare for opposing defenses.

Buffalo BillsSammy Watkins (Buffalo Bills) – Sammy Watkins is a machine and is amazing for dynasty leagues. Pick him up! The reality is that Sammy Watkins has all the talent in the world and there isn’t a lot of competition for targets on his new team. The Bills best WR, Stevie Johnson, now plays for San Francisco and newly acquired Mike Williams won’t allow defenses to focus solely on Watkins. Watkins faces two tough challenges. First, the QB situation in Buffalo isn’t great. EJ Manuel is a great talent, but he does have a history of injury and when the backup comes in Watkins’ value will be affected. It doesn’t help that the Bills o-line isn’t great and could create problems. Second, the division that Watkins plays in is filled with great corners, so there is a high probability that Watkins will be playing against top talent when he lines up on Sunday. That being said, Watkins is a pure playmaker and if the Bills can find a way to get him in space, look out.

Carolina PanthersKelvin Benjamin (Carolina Panthers) – The Carolina Panthers raised eyebrows when they gutted their offense in the offseason. I don’t know if anyone could name a player for Cam Newton to throw to before the Draft. Playing in a division that includes a revamped Bucs offense and Drew Brees, a great defense alone won’t translate into success for the Panthers. That’s where Benjamin comes in. What’s scary about Benjamin is that he is even bigger than Evans. The guy has red zone target written on the back of his jersey, after all he caught the game winning red zone TD in the BCS National Championship game last year. Outside of TE Greg Olsen, Benjamin will have every opportunity to be successful.

New Orleans Saints ThumbnailBrandon Cooks (New Orleans Saints) - It’s no mystery that the New Orleans Saints are an offensive juggernaut. However, this offseason we saw some of the Saints main weapons depart. No worries, I am not talking about Jimmy Graham. But there is an opportunity for some new players to emerge and have a significant fantasy impact on your team. The Saints moved up in the draft to select Cooks, so that means they have plans to use him in the offense. He is undersized, but has tremendous speed that is built for the Superdome. Look at Cooks as a high risk/ high reward type player that has always existed in New Orleans.

New York GiantsOdell Beckham (New York Giants) - Eli Manning was horrible last year, really bad. Brandon might even say worse then that. This will scare a lot of fantasy owners away from players like Reuben Randle and Victor Cruz. With that being said, there were some bright spots on offense for the Giants last year. One of those players was Reuben Randle. Randle did the majority of his damage playing out of the WR 3 role. With the departure of Hakeem Nicks, Randle will move into the WR 2 role leaving, you guessed it, Beckham to fill the WR 3 role that Randle was so successful in last year. There is a real possibility that Beckham will see soft coverage that will allow him to demonstrate his great potential. If you can bear cheering for Eli every week then Beckham might be a good pick up.

The 2014 NFL Draft is in the books and we know where the top rookie quarterbacks landed. But before we start, I have a confession.

I never draft rookie quarterbacks.

Sure, I missed out on Andrew Luck and RGII and Cam Newtown, but I know myself. I need a consistent quarterback. I will spring a little early for my Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, etc. I need one position on lockdown, one slot on my roster that I don’t have to over think.

But I’m not everyone. Some of you like to live on the edge so here are the best bets and why:

Cleveland Browns ThumbnailJohnny Manziel (Cleveland Browns) - Don’t overthink it. Love him or hate him, this guy has all the makings of a special running and scoring quarterback. In fantasy football, that’s fantastic. Brian Hoyer showed some realy moxy last year, but quarterbacks have a tough time bouncing back from ACL surgery (examples: Carson Palmer, Tom Brady, RGIII, etc.) so this is Johnny’s job to lose. Last year at Texas A&M Manziel passed for 4,114 yards and 37 touchdowns. But you know what makes him worth drafting to your fantasy team? He also rushed for 759 yards and for an additional nine touchdowns which helps make up for the probable loss of receiving phenomenon, Josh Gordon. He did all of that in 13 games. Well, technically he did it in 12 1/2 due to that pesky suspension, but you don’t need to worry about that. He’ll keep his nose clean his first year. Right?

Oakland Raiders ThumbnailDerek Carr (Oakland Raiders) - I’ll admit it; I have a sweet spot for this guy. I know part of the reasoning lies in the years I watched his older brother, David Carr, get sacked and sacked and sacked in Houston as the first quarterback for the Texans expansion team. It was… rough. It would be nice if one member of this talented family could get a fair shake. And when you look at his senior year numbers at Fresno State (5,083 passing yards and 50 touchdowns) you have to get a little excited. The Raiders had a great draft, overall. And even though I feel for Matt Schaub, he isn’t the answer. Look for Carr to start as soon as he learns the playbook.

Minnesota Vikings ThumbnailTeddy Bridgewater (Minnesota Vikings) - The Vikings were very excited to jump up and steal Bridgewater as the last pick of the first round of the draft. Call it a hunch, but I think they want to get him on the field as soon as they can. Returning veteran Matt Cassel doesn’t really have a leg up on the quarterback competition because Cassel is new to Offensive Coordinator, Norv Turner’s playbook. Bridgewater didn’t have the gaudy numbers in Liousville (3,970 passing yards and 31 touchdowns) but he only threw four interceptions. Many scouts thought Teddy was the most advanced prospect in the draft because he could read defenses and keep it together under pressure in the pocket. There are a lot of new factors on this team so it’s difficult to make an accurate assessment, but we like his chances.

Jacksonville Jaguars ThumbnailBlake Bortles (Jacksonville Jaguars) - The Jaguars took the first quarterback off the boards, and it was Blake Bortles from the University of Central Florida. It surprised pretty much everyone. Bortles describes himself as a “work in progress.” He’s a big, athletic man standing 6’3″, weighing 230 pounds and able to run the 40 yard dash in 4.78 seconds. Chad Henne keeps hanging in there and Jacksonville still isn’t an offensive juggernaut. We like Bortles… next year.

Houston Texans ThumbnailTom Savage (Houston Texans) - Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick and T.J. Yates were already competing for the starting job, but now you can add Tom Savage to the mix. None of the three returning quarterbacks have asserted themselves as “the guy” so there is a chance that Savage could get some playing time. He only played one full season in college due to a bunch of transfers between Rutgers, Arizona and Pittsburgh. He’s big (6’4″ 228 lbs) and he’s willing to work.

And for a bonus, keep an eye on Jimmy Garoppolo of the New England Patriots. No, I do not think he will beat out Tom Brady. That is ridiculous. However, I do think Brady will go out at the top of his game. I don’t see him pulling a Brett Favre. Even if Brady wanted to play past his prime, Giselle would lose it. And she’d be right. I would not be surprised if 2015 is Brady’s last year (especially if they don’t get Tom legitimate offensive weapons).

Who are you most excited to watch in 2014? Do you think any of these guys are future Hall of Famers?
