Kansas City Chiefs – Fantasy Forecast – Week 15

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Kansas City Defense

#3 Ranked DEF

Wow, life is so good for the Chiefs when they don’t play the Broncos twice in a three-week span. Hopefully you were patient and held onto them while they went through their awkward stage because now you are reaping the rewards during the fantasy playoffs. Oakland gives up the 8th most fantasy points to opposing DEFs. The Jets sacked McGloin three times and scored on a pick-six last week. Expect similar results from the Chiefs.

Other Clear Starters: Alex Smith (QB), Jamaal Charles (RB)

Gut Calls

Dwayne Bowe

#23 Ranked WR

We have him ranked as a Must Start and we should. We put him in the Gut Calls for the write-up because it’s still hard to feel certain about Bowe’s potential fantasy production. But in reality Bowe continues to turn out great numbers. He scored a TD in three of his last four games and since Week 7 he’s only garnered less than 50 yards once. You should feel good about starting him because he’ll get solid production, but it’s hard to get excited about a guy who hasn’t topped 13 fantasy points in standard scoring leagues all year. Oakland does give up the 8th most fantasy points to opposing WRs so this might be his chance. Might.

For Your Consideration: Ryan Succop (K)

Bench Warmers

You either play them or you don’t know who they are.

Alex Smith

#5 Ranked QB

Here at Her Fantasy Football Headquarters, we continue to baffle at why fantasy football experts, far and wide, refuse to acknowledge numbers and Smith’s fantasy value. Over the last four weeks, he averaged 22.08 fantasy points per game. That is the third best average in the league, only behind Nick Foles and Russell Wilson. If you watch Chiefs games, these numbers may not make any sense to you because time and time again Smith’s receivers drop the ball, but he’s doing all of this despite that handicap. Washington gives up the 8th most fantasy points to opposing QBs, so start with confidence.

Jamaal Charles

#1 Ranked RB

It feels a little ridiculous telling you to start Charles, but here it goes. Washington gives up the 7th most fantasy points to opposing RBs. Last week Charles rushed 19 times for 93 yards and one TD and caught two passes for 27 yards. Expect similar numbers on Sunday.

Kansas City Defense

#1 Ranked DEF

They’ve burned you lately. We know. But Washington is terrible and they give up the 6th most fantasy points to opposing DEFs. Chin up, owners. They don’t have to play the Broncos again until possibly the playoffs. You are safe.

Gut Calls

No gut calls. You both love and play them or they belong on your bench.

Bench Warmers

All Wide Receivers

The highest ranked WR on the Chiefs is Dwayne Bowe at #29, but can you trust him? If you watched the Chiefs-Broncos game last week you witnessed an unbelievable amount of drops. If you saw it then you would be as nervous to start one of these players on your fantasy team, as Alex Smith is nervous to throw down-field. Stay away.

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Alex Smith

#7 Ranked QB

It’s interesting how almost all fantasy experts hate Alex Smith, but over the last two games he’s thrown for two or more TDs and scored 20+ fantasy points in each outing. Denver gives up the 7th most fantasy points to opposing QBs and Smith threw for 230 yards, two TDs, zero INTs and rushed for an additional 52 yards. Do we smell a repeat?

Jamaal Charles

#8 Ranked RB

Charles averages 23 touches per game and the Chiefs need him to perform at his best to win this home game. You wouldn’t dream of benching Charles, nor should you. We’re just here to reinforce how awesome it is to have him on your team. Good luck in the fantasy playoffs. With Charles on your team, that probably where you are headed.

Gut Calls

Dwayne Bowe

#29 Ranked WR

Two nice games in a row earns Bowe a spot in the “Gut Calls” section. Who knew that all Bowe needed was a marijuana arrest to really up his game? Whatever, fantasy owners will take points where they can get them, and right now Bowe wants to give you points. For two weeks in a row he caught four or more passes for 50+ yards and a TD. You can play him with the hopes that he will continue his streak.

Bench Warmers

Kansas City Chiefs

#15 Ranked DEF

Two weeks ago the Chiefs only scored 2.00 fantasy points against the Broncos. And last week, at home, the Chiefs garnered -3.00 fantasy points against San Diego. Kansas City got banged up on defense, and even though Manning isn’t 100% (by any means) you still want to stay away.

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Jamaal Charles

#2 Ranked RB

Last week the Chiefs abandoned the run… and they lost.  Let’s assume they learned their lesson and Charles will get back to his usually awesome self.  Twice, Charles has garnered less than 100 total yards.  But only twice, so don’t freak out.

Kansas City Defense

#3 Ranked DEF

We love this defense and we told you not to start them last week.  Hopefully you listened.  But this week, put them back in.  San Diego doesn’t turn over the ball all that often, but they will get to Phillip Rivers.  Frankly, we think the Chiefs are looking to punish the Chargers to let out some frustrations from last week.

Gut Calls

Alex Smith

#11 Ranked QB

We’re a little confused.  It seems all other fantasy experts hate this guy.  Last week Smith threw for 230 yards, 2 TDs and rushed for 52 yards.  He scored over 20 fantasy points for the fourth time this year.  That’s pretty groovy.  And San Diego has given up the 4th most fantasy points to opposing QBs. No one’s going to tell you to start him over Drew Brees, but if you’re in a bad place trying to replace Russell Wilson, you could do worse.  He might be a sneaky play in a competitive divisional matchup after a close loss.

Dwayne Bowe

#27 Ranked WR

Bowe scored over 10 fantasy points for only the third time this season against the Broncos last week.  He caught 4 passes for 57 yards and 1 TD.  Clearly the Broncos chose to shut down Jamaal Charles and forced Smith to throw.  San Diego may do the same, but if you’re ever going to play Bowe, this is your week.  The Chargers give up the 5th most fantasy points to opposing WRs, so there is a chance that he comes through again this week.  But it’s more up to “chance” than a proven offensive scheme.

Bench Warmers

Anthony Fasano

#25 Ranked TE

Congrats to Fasano for his one fantasy relevant game of the season.  He caught 4 passes for 37 yards and 1 TD.  There it was, folks.  Don’t look for it again.

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Jamaal Charles

#1 Ranked RB

Charles is everything.  He’s the only offensive weapon of note on the Chiefs and they need to step it up.  Denver gives up the 10th most fantasy points to opposing RBs, so watch it rain.

Gut Calls

Alex Smith

#17 Ranked QB

Denver gives up the 11th most fantasy points to QBs and Alex Smith has something to prove.  The main criticism of the undefeated Chiefs is their inability to score.  Smith must throw it down the field to keep up with even a gimpy Manning.  However, he was terrible in the game before the bye.  At Buffalo, Smith only threw for 124 yards, 0 TDs and 0 INTs.  He also rushed for 7 yards, his lowest rushing yardage of the season.  He’s risky, but he could also be your difference maker.

Bench Warmers

Kansas City Defense

#19 Ranked DEF

They are the best defense in football right now.  And you know they are must starts every week… except the two weeks they play the Denver Broncos.  Even on crutches, Manning will carve any and all defenses.  Is there a chance that Manning is really hurt and he leaves the game at some point and the backup gives up a ton of points to this skilled squad?  Sure.  A chance.  But we’re getting towards the end of the fantasy season; you don’t want to take that chance.  Denver gives up the fewest fantasy points to opposing defenses.  And although we think the Chiefs will fare better than most, that would still only put them in the middle of the pack this week.  Let them rest.

Cover32LogoKansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills

The Chiefs are the only undefeated team in the league, and you might be the only undefeated team in your fantasy league if you drafted Jamaal Charles and picked up the Kansas City Defense.

This week, we made some gut calls on Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Defense, Dexter McCluster, Alex Smith and Dwayne Bowe.

Here is an example of what you can find over at Cover32.com, by Her Fantasy Football:

Gut Calls

Dexter McCluster
#54 Ranked WR
Back in the day you could play McCluster as a WR or a RB, but it seems this year most platforms limited him to WR only. Either way, this player is versatile. Over the last two weeks, McCluster has been a large part of the Chiefs’ game plan, but before that he was a fantasy bust. This week should be another good week because Buffalo gives up the most fantasy points to opposing WRs, and none of the other receivers seem to do ANYTHING! You can play him if you’re in a pinch, but don’t be upset if he bottom’s out.

Arrowhead. That’s a scary word. And the Chiefs continue to dominate. Their defense… holy moly their DEFENSE!

Yeah, they are the best. No doubt about it. They average (yes, average) 19.67 fantasy points per game. That’s crazy town. And you know what’s even crazier than that? Houston gives up the second most fantasy points to opposing defenses. That’s what happens when you literally throw a pick-6 in every game. Look for a Kansas City beat down.

The Raiders are better than you think, but so are the Chiefs.  If you are not in love with Jamaal Charles, there’s nothing we can do for you.  Feel good team of the year.

This week, we made some gut calls on Jamaal Charles, Donnie Avery, Dwayne Bowe, Alex Smith and Sean McGrath.

An example of our fantasy analysis (the fun one):

Sean McGrath
#25 Ranked TE
He’s only 2 percent owned, so you probably weren’t considering him this week. The only thing you should note is this guy’s EPIC beard. Seriously, it’s a conversation starter. But don’t start him. Good news, he’s been upgraded to even BEING on the bench. He’s someone to watch.
