Arizona Cardinals – Fantasy Forecast – Week 10

Houston Texans 2-6 at Arizona Cardinals 4-4

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Andre Ellington

#17 Ranked RB

Let’s jog your memory: In Week 8 Andre Ellington rushed for 154 yards and a TD.  Now that we have your attention, let’s all agree that the Cardinals have a new stud in town.  Hopefully you picked him up.  If you need a fantasy jolt, Andre is the ticket.

Arizona Defense

#4 Ranked DEF

When it comes to REAL football, Arizona has a fabulous defense.  In fantasy, they’re a little all over the map.  And even though Keenam was great last Sunday night against the Colts, the Houston team seems to be in disarray so you can look for the Cardinals defense to take advantage.  Houston has given up the 3rd most points to opposing defenses.  Most of those points were scored on the Schaub pick-6 habit, so it is a bit inflated, but either way, you could do worse.

Gut Calls

Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd

#18 Ranked WR and #34 Ranked WR

Coming off the bye, Fitzgerald owners hope he’s fully healed from his injury.  And Michael Floyd owners hope he worked on his chemistry with Carson Palmer.  Both WRs are worth consideration even though Houston has given up the 5th least fantasy points to opposing WRs.  Defenses have to account for Ellington, so the offense should open up a bit.  We like that.

Bench Warmers

Carson Palmer

#26 Ranked QB

If you use the Yahoo fantasy football platform, you’ll see that Palmer is owned in 34% of leagues.  Who are these people?  He averages less than 11 points per game.  Are you the same 4% of people who approve of Congress?  You are, aren’t you?

You gotta love divisional games.  Both teams have great defenses, but will there be fantasy gold.  We get to the bottom of it all.

This week, we made some gut calls on Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Ellington, Michael Floyd, Rashard Mendenhall and Carson Palmer.

Here is an example of what you can find over at Cover32.com, by Her Fantasy Football:

Gut Calls

Andre Ellington
#30 Ranked RB
Ellington is the pickup of the week. However, temper your expectations in Week 7 due to the fact that Seattle gives up the 4th fewest fantasy points to RBs. Ellington continues to produce and last week he had 56 yards rushing, 1 rushing TD and 36 yards receiving. We like that. Given the dearth of RB production, he should be owned in all standard teams. Go get him.

Arizona Cardinals – Fantasy Foreplay – Analysis Featured on Cover32.com

Cover32LogoArizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers

Remember at the beginning of the season when everyone thought the 49ers were the best team in the NFL?  Hm.  Now people are wondering if this will be a close game.  The Arizona Defense continues to improve and you can’t really say the same this about the 49ers offense.  Time will tell.

This week, we made some gut calls on Larry Fitzgerald, the Arizona Defense, Carson Palmer, Rashard Mendenhall and Andre Ellington.

Some of our thoughts:

Carson Palmer
#28 Ranked QB
This nice fellow needs to be dropped from your roster. Averaging fewer than 10 points per game, you have better fantasy options. Brandon Weeden, Andy Dalton, Joe Flacco and even Eli Manning are averaging more points per game. We don’t blame Palmer for the lack of a number 2WR or any TE at all. That is a team management issue. But facts are facts. Happy trails to you.

How to Evaluate Carson Palmer’s Fantasy Value?

Arizona CardinalsRon Jaworski, ESPN contributor, is in the midst of releasing his top 32 QBs for the upcoming season.  He ranked Carson Palmer as the 23rd best QB in the league, but Jaws really has nothing but good things to say about Palmer.  Jess Root, from revengeofthebirds.com (which is a really fun site) goes into more detail in the article below.

What does this mean to fantasy ladies?  This is a classic sleeper scenario.  Carson Palmer actually has pretty decent stats considering he’s played on terrible teams. He goes to Arizona to meet up with Larry Fitzgerald, one of the greatest WRs, and magic could happen.  COULD… This is a case for “women’s intuition.”

My take: Palmer will not start the season as a fantasy starter.  He could, however, improve throughout the season.  Fitzgerald is an instant improvement, but that O-Line was TERRIBLE last year.  None of the team’s QBs could stay upright.  It was downright terrifying to watch.  Hopefully, the team made improvements on the line and Carson Palmer fantasy value will go up and up, allowing him to serve as a great fill in when your starter is out for a Bye Week.  Things to watch.

What do you think?

Carson Palmer rated 23rd best QB in NFL by Ron JaworskiHis ranking is fairly low, but his comments are very positive. We are in the NFL quiet period, which means it is time to make some noise. That’s what ESPN’s Ron Jaworski is doing, as he is releasing his yearly “big board” of NFL quarterbacks.
