Weekly Positional Rankings – 8.21.13 – But yes, it is two days later

Hello, little loves.

So sorry we were late with our rankings this week.  The good news is that we are on iTunes!!!  The bad news is that the technical nightmare we had to endure to get there put us behind a bit.

But that’s okay.  We’re on the right track!

Lots of changes this week.  Injuries, depth charts and questionable or dynamic play have helped to shape this weeks’ rankings.  Best of luck to all of you drafting this week.  It’s getting crazy out there.

Pittsburgh Steelers Acquire RB Felix Jones from the Eagles, Try to Lick RB Le’Veon Bell Wound

Pittsburgh Steelers scrambled to add another RB into the mix once they realized that although early reports indicate the RB Le’Veon Bell will not need surgery on his mid-foot sprain, the injury will hold him our 6 to 8 weeks.  And let’s be honest, if you’ve ever played fantasy football, you know that a foot injury can linger all season, and beyond.

They put together a player for player trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.  They gave the Eagles Outside LB Adrian Robinson for RB Felix Jones.  I like player-for-player trades.  They feel like old school football, so I’m all in.

So, where does that leave the backfield?  Felix Jones with join the middling group of backup RBs that are destined to become a “Running Back By Committee”: Jonathan Dwyer, Isaac Redman, Baron Batch and the goal-line back LaRod Stephens-Howling.  No one’s been talking about it, but out of all these guys (included the band-aid Felix Jones) I would only take LaRod Stephens-Howling.  You can get him late in the draft, and we know he’s the goal-line guy.  I think he’s going to have more of a workload, but that’s a prediction.  Either way, he is the only guy in the many-head monster that has a defined role in this offense, and a consistent one.  He has some fantasy value, especially during those rough bye weeks.

Report: Eagles trade RB Felix Jones to Steelers for LB Adrian RobinsonThe Steelers need a running back and the Eagles need to bolster a defense that was among the worst last season — and didn’t look much different through two preseason games. To that end, Pittsburgh has traded outside linebacker Adrian Robinson to Philly in exchange for running back Felix Jones, according to NFL reporter Adam Caplan.

8.22.13 Her Fantasy Football Podcast- Draftability by Position by Tier

Houston Texans

Ed Reed and J.J. Watt…what a tandem they will be…we will just have to wait to see it

Houston TexansI don’t think I am the only one exited to see J.J Watt and Ed Reed punishing people together on the same team this year…sadly, we might have to wait a tiny bit longer. Ed Reed isn’t sure he will be able to play for the opener. He is going to be a big piece of the Houston Defensive puzzle so keep your eye on Ed’s progress.

Ed Reed unsure he’ll play in Houston Texans’ openerLongtime Texans beat writer John McClain of the Houston Chronicle wrote earlier this month that “nobody has any clue” when Ed Reed would return to the field. That includes Ed Reed. The Houston Texans safety acknowledged Tuesday that he might not be ready for Week 1 against the San Diego Chargers after opening camp on the physically unable to perform list.

Training camp means we’re getting closer and closer to the season.  That also mean I need to stock up on my booze and mini hot dogs.  We have a family “Super Bowl Wieners” recipe that will make any fantasy fan feel like a pro.

Oh, and then there’s the tradition of clam dip.  And chicken wings.  And… I think you get the picture.

Arizona Cardinals Sign DE John Abraham and OT Eric Winston – Big Day

Arizona CardinalsAccording to ESPN’s Information Guru, Adam Schefter, the Arizona Cardinals were busy little bees today.

The ever-changing Arizona Cardinals signed Offensive Tackle, Eric Winston.  Formerly with the Houston Texans, and then with the Kansas City Chiefs, Mr. Winston seems to have held his own and comes to the Cardinals with decent stats.  It’s unclear as to whether or not he’ll be a starter, but at bare minimum, the Cardinals are paying attention to their biggest flaw – the O Line!

Then there was the signing of 4 time Pro Bowler, John Abraham.  The Defensive End used to play for the New York Jets and the Atlanta Falcons.  He received a two-year contract, but I’m not as sure as to what he adds to the team.  The Cardinals already have Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett at Defensive End, and they are both great.  Some are suggesting Abraham could play Line Backer and help fill in the open roster spots due to injury or potential injury.  Okay, we’ll see.

Fantasy-wise, we just want that offense to start clicking.  The O Line MUST be better.  The Cardinals were terrible running the ball, but now they have Mendenhall and two rookie back who are hungry.  They were also bad at receiving, but Carson Palmer seems to click with Larry Fitzgerald.  There is room for optimism.

But none of this matters if there are no running lanes and if the QB continues to be on his back.  The Cardinals cannot have a repeat from last year if they want to win.  And fantasy owners can’t take another disappointing year, even from studs like Fitzgerald.  Hopefully they are finding the talent they need and it can all come together before their season opener at St. Louis on Sunday, September 8.

Oooo… the season is so close!!!
