Carolina Panthers – Fantasy Forecast – Week 13

Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

Cam Newton

#1 Ranked QB

Today marks the first day we’ve ever ranked Cam Newton the number one QB of the week. That makes us incredibly nervous, but it had to be done. Last week he threw for 174 yards, one TD and one INT. Then he rushed eight times for 51 yards and another TD. Tampa Bay gives up the 10th most fantasy points to opposing QBs, so this could be a great game for Newton owners.

Greg Olsen

#10 Ranked TE

Olson caught five passes and scored one TD in both of the last two games. Cam likes him, a lot. You should like him, too. Any TE with nine targets in a game is one worth starting.

Carolina Defense

#1 Ranked DEF

The Carolina Defense has yet to play a game in which they did not force a turnover. The last time they played Tampa Bay, they sacked Glennon three times. Play them till the cows come home.

Gut Calls

Steve Smith

#28 Ranked WR

You only want to play Steve Smith if you play PPR. He will more than likely catch five passes, but those catches will only go about 60 yards. Also, he hasn’t scored a TD since Week 6. Something to think about.

Bench Warmers

DeAngelo Williams, Mike Tolbert, Jonathan Stewart

#34 Ranked RB, #36 Ranked RB, #60 Ranked RB

Last week this three-headed-running-committee scored 3, 2 and 1 fantasy point a piece. Ouch. You want nothing to do with this committee. It’s a stinker.

What the what?!?!  You just never know what you’re going to get with these two teams, but we always hope for fantasy greatness (with tempered expectations).

This week, we made some gut calls on Cam Newton, Carolina Defense, DeAngelo Williams, Greg Olsen and All the Wide Receivers.

Here is an example of what you can find over at Cover32.com, by Her Fantasy Football:

Play ‘Em If Got ‘Em

Cam Newton
#6 Ranked QB
You have to play him if you drafted him. Hopefully, you don’t get motion sickness because this is going to be a bumpy ride. Up and down and up and down. It is what it is, but you can’t have him scoring 30 fantasy points on your bench. Last week he was fabulous (242 passing yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 30 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD) and the week before he was dreadful (308 passing yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs, 25 rushing yards). Sorry, them’s the breaks.

Fantasy Forecast: Panthers vs. RamsSt. Louis Rams (3-3) at Carolina Panthers (2-3)) ST. LOUIS RAMS Play ‘Em If Got ‘Em No one is a must start on the Rams. Carolina’s defense is the real deal and none of the players on the Rams offense can produce consistent fantasy numbers.

Suggestion box, anyone?  Anyone?  Both Carolina and Minnesota have only tasted victory one time this season.  Someone has to win, right?  Good for them.  But let’s focus on you fantasy victory!

This week, we made some gut calls on Cam Newton, DeAngelo Williams, Graham Gano, Greg Olsen and the receiving corps.

A Penny’s Worth of Thoughts:

Cam Newton

#12 Ranked QB

We simply cannot in good faith continue to tell people that Cam Newton is a must start. His stats are all over the map. We think there is a possibility that he has a nice game, but this is a gut call. Last week Newton went back to that odd sideline behavior and lacked the vigor necessary to win a football game. And remember: in fantasy, we’re not as into winning the game so much as we are about yards and TDs. He couldn’t get that done either. He was sacked 7 times and never fell into a rhythm because of the sneakily good Arizona defense. Perhaps the coaching staff will go back to designed runs like in his Week 3, 30-fantasy-point outing. Too many unknowns to play without consideration. If you have a better option, don’t be afraid to play the other guy.

Fantasy Foreplay: Panthers vs. VikingsCarolina Panthers (1-3) at Minnesota Vikings (1-3) CAROLINA PANTHERS Play ‘Em If You Got ‘Em No one is a must start after the disappointing game last week coming off the bye, but there are a lot of bubble players that you might want to consider if you’re in a bye week predicament.
