In this week’s episode, we will talk through the major changes and discuss the potential fantasy impact they might have on the 2018 season. Ashley is a bit concerned that the Broncos will not adjust their play calls to Case Keenum’s skill set, Courtney is very excited on a personal and professional level about Sammy Watkins going to the Chiefs, whereas Brandon is a bit less excited about the Sammy Watkins move.

Who will get the pleasure of covering the Jets or the Niners this year??? The whole tone for the year is determined in this episode. Ashley gets the Seattle Seahawks for a third year in a row, Courtney for the first time will NOT cover her Dolphins, and Brandon (as always) did not get a single team that she wanted. Listen in to see where the other teams fell.

New York Giants 6-10

Welcome to the NFC East Week and the New York Giants 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team.

Highs:

 Odell Beckham Jr.

ODB!!! Is there anyone else on this team to talk about? He was Offensive Rookie of the Year. He finished his Rookie year fifth best Wide Receiver and that is with missing the first four games. He is a freak in the best way. No one can forget his catch against Dallas where he caught the ball horizontal with three fingers. Seven out of his twelve games he had 15 or more points. They say he only averaged 12.3 fantasy points but if you take his total and divide it by 12 it was actually 16.4, more then the other four in front of him. I can’t say enough about this kid, he is amazing.

Eli Manning

There are no questions we were all worried about Eli Manning before the 2014 season started. Not only was he recovering from an ankle injury but for the first time in his 10 years in the NFL, he was learning a new offense that was nothing like what he was familiar with. Even with those obstacles, Manning had 4,410 yards passing, 30 touchdowns, and a QB Rating of 92.1. Those are his best stats since 2011. With a year under Ben McAdoo’s offense, Manning should only be better in2015.

Lows:

Victor Cruz

My low for the Giants was Victor Cruz’s injury. When he went out in Week 6 with a torn right patellar tendon there were rumors that he may never play again. Tearing your patellar tendon is way worse then tearing your ACL and the recovering could take much longer. No one knows whether or not he will be ready to play by August but we really don’t now if he will play the same ever again. We hope for the best for him. He is really one of the good guys in sports.

Rashad Jennings

Yet another season that Jennings couldn’t make it through the whole season. He missed 4 games in the middle of the season and week 16. Compared to last year he had almost 100 yards less rushing, two less touchdowns, and 66 yards less receiving. Now the Giants have been active on free agency and picked up Shane Vereen from the New England Patriots. He will be taking away some yards on the ground but most of the passes to the running back will be to Vereen. Jennings will need to really focus on his training so he can stay healthy and be fantasy worthy.

Dallas Cowboys 12-4

Welcome to the NFC East Week and the Dallas Cowboys 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team.

Highs:

Dez Bryant

It amazes me that Dez continues to perform and stay healthy every year. In his 2014 season he had 88 receptions, 1320 yards, and 16 touchdowns. That is three more touchdowns then any other receiver last year. Dez is now a franchise player after being tagged this offseason. No long-term deal yet for Dez but he will get paid with stats like his.

DeMarco Murray

I think we all can agree that DeMarco Murray was the standout for the Cowboys. He averaged 17 fantasy points a game. He had five games with 20 or more points and had eight games in a row with over 100 yards rushing. He had another four games over 100 yards rushing as well, for a grand total of 1845 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns and another 416 yards receiving. He was the clear number one running back of 2014 behind a very talented offensive line. Murray has found a new home for the 2015 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. Both Murray and Chip Kelly think this will be a very good match. After being run to the ground and switching teams only time will tell if Murray can be as successful this year as he was last year.

Lows:

Terrance Williams

My first low was Terrance Williams. I love Dez but Dez could have been even better if the Cowboys opened up that offense using Terrence like they did in the playoffs, where he had two touchdowns. In his second year in the league and playing with two of the leading scorers in fantasy (Bryant and Murray), Williams still managed to have 8 touchdowns on the year.

Jason Witten

The good thing about Witten is that in fantasy his position is terrible if you’re not Gronkowski or Graham. With so many weapons on the Cowboys Witten was their third or fourth best option on the field. The aging tight end had his worse year in yards since his rookie season. For a man that has been playing in the NFL since 2003, he continues to play in every game. He may not get you a ton of fantasy points but at least he is on the field trying.

Arizona Cardinals 11-5

Welcome to the NFC West Week and the Arizona Cardinals 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team.

The Cardinals have made some moves this offseason and restructured some contracts leaving a lot more cap space. Rumors are that the Cardinals are very interested in Peterson if the Vikings are willing to do a trade. If the Peterson trade does not happen we are looking at a very similar team to draft from in our 2015 fantasy drafts.

Highs:

My biggest high for the Cardinals in 2014 was Bruce Arians. You may be saying that doesn’t affect my fantasy team, but Coaches can have a huge impact on who you start. Arians won Coach of the Year and to me there was no real competition. He was hired on by the Cardinals before the 2013 season and led the team to a 10-6 record. That was double the wins the previous season. The Cardinals improved from 32nd overall on offense to 12th and 12th on defense to 6th. He is making this team better, which is making them better for fantasy.

After Carson Palmer tore his ACL in week 9 there was never that fantasy star coming out of Arizona. Palmer was right about 18 fantasy points in each game he played so in a two Quarterback league or if you had Kaepernick or RG3 he was a great play. He signed a huge contract right before getting injured, which was restructured so the Cardinals could save $7 million in cap space. Next year will be nothing but good for Palmer and a great low fantasy draft pick.

Lows:

Larry Fitzgerald was not what we were thinking when we drafted him before the 2014 season. In the first four games he had a total of 14 fantasy points. In the last four games he had a total of 12 fantasy points. 2014 was his worse year since entering the NFL in 2004. Even in his rookie year he had only four less yards but 6 more touchdowns. After lots of talks about a trade to Cleveland, Fitzgerald was able to restructure his contract in February so he will continue to play in red.

Andre Ellington was supposed to be this workhorse for the Arizona Cardinals last season. That was not the case. He injured his foot in preseason and seemed to never rebound. He averaged only 3.3 yards a carry and only found the end zone 5 times. The coaches want him to get “bigger and stronger”. I would add better as well.

Carolina Panthers 7-8

Welcome to the NFC South Week and the Carolina Panthers 2014 Fantasy Highs and Lows. Each week we will go division by division breaking down each team.

There was nothing amazing about this team last year. They might have made it through to the second round of playoffs, but struggled to get to the Superbowl with some key holes in their team.

Highs:

Greg Olsen

Greg Olsen, Mr. Consistent, was great averaging 8 fantasy points, which is all we want from our Tight Ends in fantasy. The Panthers know when they have a good thing. They signed Olsen to a three-year deal $22.5 million for an extension through 2018.

Kelvin Benjamin

Rookie Kelvin Benjamin was defiantly a Rookie but finished in the top 20 receivers. That really doesn’t say much since he was the only receiver on the team unlike the other two Rookies that had more fantasy points (ODB and Mike Evans) that had to fight for targets. Still Benjamin had over 1000 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Lows:

DeAngelo Williams

My low was DeAngelo Williams. A lot of people drafted him but by the end of the season not many people owned him. He only played in 6 games this season, had a total of 263 yards and zero touchdowns. He was quickly replaced by Jonathan Stewart who wasn’t that bad. He had three games over 10 fantasy points in the last five weeks of the season. Obviosely the Carolina Panthers agreed with me because Williams for cut. He has since signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a two-year deal for $4 million.

Minnesota Vikings 2014 will be one of learning and rebuilding on both ends of the game. Although there are a few big names to draft, there are more questions then answers. Find your draft questions answered with the Minnesota Vikings fantasy football check in.

Only Mike Zimmer Knows – Quarterback

Last year’s stats: The presumed starter Matt Cassel played in 9 games and had 1807 yards, 11 TDs, 9 INTs and 1 FUM. Christian Ponder who is rumored to be traded played in 9 games and had 1648 yards, 7 TDs, 9 INTs, and 4 FUM. At the end of the season they had the same amount of fantasy points with 107. And then there is Rookie Teddy Bridgewater that will be fighting for the starting spot this offseason.

Things to like: There is nothing that I like about drafting a Minnesota QB. They have plenty of weapons to use but this will be a learning year or rebuilding year either way.

Reasons to pause: Where do I start? We suggest never drafting a rookie QB if Teddy Bridgewater is named starter. This will be a new offense for everyone to learn. It will take sometime to adjust before we see any great numbers coming from the Minnesota QBs. If it isn’t clear not to draft one of these QBs yet having Adrian Peterson on your team should really seal the deal. He is the number one guy for the Vikings not one of the receivers.

Adrian Peterson – Running Back

Last year’s stats: In 14 games Peterson ran for 1266 yards, had 10 TDs, another TD and 171 yards REC, and 3 FUMs. A total of 203.70 fantasy points placing him 8th in RBs.

Things to like: There is so much to like about Peterson. He is smart and quick and plays for a team that realizes that they need to get him the ball. Norv Turner plans on using Peterson in the receiving game more this year, which both sides seem excited about. This could be the last year with Vikings so he might want to prove his worth to the NFL and that can only help your fantasy team.

Reasons to pause: Peterson is coming off three seasons with injuries that resulted in surgery.Peterson is not 25 anymore. This will be his last season in his 20’s. Everyone knows that at 30 RBs tend to hit a wall. Good thing for us, we aren’t worried about 2015 yet.

Cordarrelle Patterson– Wide Receiver

Last year’s stats: Patterson had 158 yards RUSH and 469 yards REC and had 3 RUSH TDs and 4 REC TDs in 16 games in his rookie season. Oh ya he also returns kicks. 2 TDs there as well.

Things to like: Patterson can run! After he catches the ball he is capable of several yards. He should be on the field more this season and be given more opportunities to improve his route-running. Patterson has the chance to get you fantasy points in several different scenarios.

Reasons to pause: This will be the second offense he has had to learn I just two years in the NFL. There will be lots of late nights studying the playbook. He tends to play on instinct rather then running his proper route and listening to direction and with possible a new QB this could be very challenging.

Greg Jennings – Wide Receiver

Last year’s stats: Jennings played 15 games and had 68 REC, 804 yards, 4 TDs and 106 yards RUSH

Things to like: Jennings is a veteran in a very young team. Consistence is all you need in your third WR.

Reasons to pause: Minnesota is a run first offense because they have Peterson on their roster. Jennings is slowing down and isn’t deep ball threat anymore. He will be turning 31 this year.

Kyle Rudolph – Tight End

Last year’s stats: Last season Rudolph played in 8 games and had 30 RECs, 313 yards and 3 TDs. He had 9 TDs in 2012 when he played all 16 games.

Things to like: Rudolph is a big guy at 6’6” and 258 pounds. For TEs size does matter. Norv Turner, the new offense head coach, loves to use TEs. Antonio Gates anyone? Last year Turner was with Cleveland and we saw how he made a name for Cameron. In Cameron’s third season he had 80 REC, 917 yards and 7 TDs compared to only having 26 REC in the last two years. Rudolph will be the main squeeze for Turner’s TE heavy offense.

Reasons to pause: Rudolph is coming off an injury. There is some serious depth in TEs for Minnesota. Minnesota has four other TEs. If Turner decides to mix it up this could hurt Rudolph overall potential or it could open Rudolph up and really help his numbers. Overall I really like Rudolph this year.

Minnesota Vikings Defense

Last year’s stats: Last year the Vikings had 41 sacks, 12 INTs, 8 FUM REC, and 1 TD. Was ranked 28th overall for DEFs with 90 fantasy points.

Things to like: New head coach Mike Zimmer should be able to turn the defense around with almost 20 years of experience coaching defensive players in the NFL. The Vikings were smart this offseason picking up Munnerlyn off free agency. Munnerlyn comes from the Carolina Defense that was ranked 2nd amongst defenses in the league. This will hopefully help their struggling secondary from last year. I also like the signing of the best tackle available in free agency Linval Joseph. They also picked up Anthony Barr during the 2014 Draft. Hopefully all these players will help Minnesota be competitive.

Reasons to pause: This offseason the Vikings last their heart and soul of their defense when Jared Allen signed with the Green Bay Packers. If they were awful last year with him I can only imagine what they will be like this year without Allen. I worry about their decisions to look for Derek Cox to be their big playmaker. He was benched halfway through the season last year. With that said he has more career INTs then anyone else on Minnesota’s roster.
